Dorkington Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I'm predicting 6-10 - 8-8 range, until we know more about our defense. Our schedule on paper is tougher, it's hard to predict an even better offense than last year (I thought it was pretty good). So the question will be, will our defense remain the same? Improve? If it improves, will it improve enough to offset a potentially more difficult schedule?

He is not promising fans the Bills will make the playoffs, but he wants his players to think of themselves as a playoff-caliber team. Will the Bills make the playoffs before their postseason drought reaches 20 seasons after 2019? James Walker, Miami Dolphins reporter: The NFL is such a year-to-year league that I wouldn't venture to make a prediction three seasons down the road. But you can count on 18 years in a row because the Bills are not making the playoffs this season. The team is in a tricky spot. Their roster doesn't scream "playoff contender" or "full rebuild." They are young in some areas and have a rookie head coach in McDermott. There are veterans on the team such as running back LeSean McCoy, defensive tackle Kyle Williams and guard Richie Incognito who you can win with right away, though. Often, the Bills have been a couple games away, and this looks like another seven-win season. The New England Patriots will be dominant once again in the AFC East, and the Miami Dolphins swept the Bills last season and are an up-and-coming team. The Bills have been stuck in neutral -- not awful, not great -- for a while, and that will continue for at least another year. Mike Reiss, New England Patriots: Here in New England, where Bill Belichick enters his 18th season as head coach, the answer to this question would be something like this: "My crystal ball is a little bit cloudy, but if we can just focus on having a good practice today, that's the goal." I pass that along because it seems like, from afar, it is the same type of process-driven approach that McDermott is taking with the Bills. He is in the early stages of creating a culture that can sustain and put the Bills in position to be in that playoff mix in the coming years. With that as a springboard, count me in the "yes" category of the Bills snapping that playoff drought before 2019. As an annual visitor to western New York for the Patriots-Bills rivalry, it's always great to see how much the city supports the team. The fans deserve to taste some success after this playoff drought, and I'm a believer that McDermott is the leader to help the franchise snap the skid. Rich Cimini, New York Jets: I remember walking into Ralph Wilson Stadium last year and some guy had a sign that said, "Our playoff drought is old enough to drive." Before you know it, it'll be old enough to vote. Sure, the Bills can end the drought before it reaches 20, and I'm basing that on parity in the NFL. Three years is a long time, enough time for a perennial also-ran to get things fixed. I think the Bills could make some noise if they improve Tyrod Taylor's supporting cast. When you're relying on Sammy Watkins' fragile body parts, you're in trouble. I'm also curious to see if the front office/coaching staff dysfunction is resolved. As for McDermott, he needs to work on his slogans. "Playoff caliber" is lame; either call yourself a playoff team or come up with a different theme for a slogan. I guess the days of bluster (see: Rex Ryan) are over."

Captain Murica Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Miami is up and coming? The Bills should have won both games. Yeah, I don't what games he was watching. If the Bills don't lose Aaron Williams in the first game and they actually run the ball then they most likely win. Second, game if we had an HC that calls the timeout promptly and doesn't punt in OT with 4 minutes left who knows what happens.
John from Riverside Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Miami is up and coming? The Bills should have won both games. yeah JM but they didnt...... I am a huge pro bills supporter......and the prior year we scorched this Miami team the fact of the matter is miami figured out that they have a special RB in ajay....and our team now has to match it
26CornerBlitz Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Miami is up and coming? The Bills should have won both games. Hard to say that when your defense gets run over and gives up 200+ yards rushing to Ajayi in each game.
Figster Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 (edited) Hard to say that when your defense gets run over and gives up 200+ yards rushing to Ajayi in each game. Which boggles the mind considering Buffalo specializes in running the football and the Bills D faced more running reps in practice in all likelihood then any other team in the league. Ajayi, was actually pretty below average most of the year besides the 3 games in which he tallied half of his season total in. Besides the two games against Buffalo and the one against the Steelers he only rushed for 100 yards one other time. I think the Dolphins figured out our weakness more than figuring out that Ajayi was a special back. He's okay, but, nothing special.

You are wise John. Miami is improving as a team/organization. Jets have devolved and Pats remain steady. Have to beat the Pats in the regular season once and at least be in it the other game to show improvement in the AFC east race. Because Belichick adjusts so well. Can Bills make adjustments against the AFC east competition to win that later 2nd game? That's how you know Coaches are worth their weight. Stay tuned
CommonCents Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Which boggles the mind considering Buffalo specializes in running the football and the Bills D faced more running reps in practice in all likelihood then any other team in the league. Allowing running backs to run for over 200 yards on three seperate ocassions makes me think those 11 guys on defense weren't making a proffesional effort. I don't expect much in McD's first season but I don't think lack of effort will be a problem.

Not as much as one might first think. Lack of gap discipline and another year of poor communication all around was a factor. Along with risky play call by Rob Ryan leaving some one on one match ups in space with no help. I call them make or break plays. I hated when i could see a DB trying to get to a broken play and a RB coming down the field fast. I swear i saw too many WTF looks from that secondary last year. Gilmore was the poster boy

Bills put 600 yards of offense on them the second game. They lucked out in some games too, which is part of the NFL, but they are in the same range as the Bills. Cleveland should have beat them. Not buying it.

So having a strong Miami team ( as much as I loathe to suggest it) will assist in the slight chance of bringing the Pats down to a non- home field advantaged playoff game for a change

The more he flips out the happier i would be, This is the only situation in my world i might almost hate, someone that much. Not hurt, but sobbing and yelling at his players for not being as perfect as he expects. I know i am not realistic btw
