Dropped passes by Andre Holmes, Rod Streater and Philly Brown in 11-on-11 work, passes batted at line, sacks and inaccurate throws defined the day. Rookie CB Tre'Davious White played a role, breaking up two passes. Best throws from Tyrod Taylor were a pair of completions to rookie WR Zay Jones in a move-the-ball drill. can you say, new QB in 2018? too bad we don't have a time machine. More likely than not. That's why Tyrod is essentially on a one-year prove it deal. We have plenty of time to see what unfolds during the course of the season. GG Posted July 30, 2017 Share Posted July 30, 2017 The Bills "starting" RB(doesn't actually carry the rock 250-300 times and comes out in short yardage/goal line)........ makes over $8M per year(and considerably more than that if you count the fact he double dipped on his Eagles contract, which wouldn't even have expired until AFTER this year). There are 13 punters in the NFL whose average annual salary is in the range of the tender it would have taken to retain MG...........and 7.....half of them names GG has never even heard of....that make over $3M.......which is where MG's NE deal fell. MG was the most productive ypc back in the NFL........and also among the very elite in short yardage and TD%..........which is kinda' like hitting HR's and not striking out.......they should not correlate...........but that's how good he was in his two seasons in Buffalo. Yeah, he warranted that meager two year investment......especially with Shady's age and injury history.......no doubt. Calling it "nearly starter" money doesn't make a difference.......it's relative table scraps with very little commitment for a young and incredibly productive player. RB production is easy to find IMO........but that is if you are good organization..........the Bills aren't and they rarely find gems......FJax is really the only proven starting quality RB they've acquired outside of the top 2 rounds of the draft in the last 50 years(take away 2nd rounder Travis Henry and that becomes "outside of the FIRST round)...........and that is why they so often find themselves drafting them in round 1. Funny how you weave in a roster decision from 3 off-seasons ago into a rambling discourse of the back up running back slot in 2017. Because I wasn't asking about Shady. I'm asking about how you square the logic that RBs are dime a dozen, but then continue to rail about Bills not paying MG near starter money, when serviceable RBs can be found off the scrap heap? Isn't that a major problem if he doesn't have anyone reliable to throw to? Are all the QBs throwing to the same WR or not? Do all QBs throughout the league not have to deal with drops or injuries at the WR position? So the only way for Tyrod to be accurately evaluated is if he has all star WR and everyone else has garbage? They have GM'ed and Coached against us and know we haven't had a Great QB since Kelly. BADOLBILZ Posted July 30, 2017 Share Posted July 30, 2017 (edited) You say that finding RBs is not easy for the Bills, but don't factor in that in fact two years running the Bills did indeed find first Karlos Williams in the 5th and then picked MG up off the scrap heap. You also neglect to account for the 5th rd pick we got for him. Not saying it was right to let him go, but there are some holes in your argument. I said the only proven starting quality RB that they've been able to find outside of the first two rounds of the draft in 50 years was Fred Jackson....who was a UDFA. That's nuts in a league where starting RB's are often found all over the draft. They felt they had to trade a recent second round pick and give a top dollar free agent type new contract to McCoy because of their anemic drafting at the position. The Bills regularly find themselves in a jam at RB because they have NOT done a good job of finding RB talent in the middle or late portion of the draft. The Bills had found a few decent reserves in the draft.......but not a lot there either......all things considered. Karlos and MG were a very rare couple of finds by the Bills organizational standards.......especially in the case of Karlos because the Bills typically get nothing from any RB they select after round 2........and MG is the best NFL free agent RB they've picked up since Kenny Davis when plan B free agency started almost 30 years ago. As I've said.......if Jon Williams doesn't pan out.......and there is no reason to believe he will.......they may be back for another RB in round 1 next year, which would be beyond inexcusable. I liked Jon Williams as a developmental prospect but he looked like garbage last year......complete leap of faith to take after your offense just produced it's best output in 25 years with the guy they let go for peanuts. I am not particular happy that Mike G. was let go and I would have tendered him higher but a couple of things - In recent years the bills have found a back to man that 2nd spot......and now Jon Williams is getting pretty good reviews in this camp. I have been a fan of Williams and really thought when given his opportunity he was going to shine. His college tape jumps out at you and there are reports that he was not fully healed from that injury last year (I am starting to really wonder wtf our coaching staff from last year was doing....there is this trend of playing players that were not ready it seems. - If finding rb's is a mark of a good organization....we seem to be doing that Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We have plenty of time to see what unfolds during the course of the season. ....essentially "IT" in a nutshell.......but you know how that "voice of reason" stuff flies around here.....this franchise has been an unstable, patchwork mess for years...FINALLY .have the makings of a solid football ORGANIZATION starting with Admin/FO right down to between the stripes, whether McD is a rook or not.....so let's see what TT can do in his "make it or break it" year....why not?....he's here for 2017......and having two 1sts in 2018 ain't such a bad position either............. My god stop with the excuses for Tyrod! It's not an excuse if all the receiver does is drop balls. That's all I have heard out of camp... Holmes drops another ball.
