Bengals sign Houshmandzadeh - Cinci Enquirer on-line 03/02/05

By Mark Curnutte

Enquirer staff writer

"The Bengals reached an agreement late today on a four-year contract to keep wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh in Cincinnati.

The team was close to reaching a deal with Houshmandzadeh early this afternoon.

He was second on the team last season, emerging as the No. 2 receiver, with 73 receptions and 978 yards.

Houshmandzadeh made the most of an opportunity to play after Peter Warrick was lost with a pair of leg injuries.

Houshmandzadeh was expected to have generated interest on the open market, and Baltimore had taken a liking to the four-year veteran from Oregon State. However, the Ravens today signed former Titans wide receiver Derrick Mason to a five-year deal.

Bengals officials also were expecting the arrival of running back Rudi Johnson today at the Paul Brown Stadium office. Johnson is expected to sign his franchise-tag tender of $6.3 million.

I used to love watching him drop punts...that and his friggin rat tail.

He did have a solid season last year. He sucessfully went from the gallows to a respected Bengal (if there is such a thing).

Who-dey?
