They are outside our neighborhood, up a 5 foot retaining wall, behind a hedge and a fence, but it all blows downhill. :( Edited by Augie

My neighbor has this mutant strain of chickweed in his yard, that of course (being chickweed) spreads to ours. The ****'s damn near indestructible. My wife sprayed the lawn with what she thought was broadleaf weed killer...but was actually Roundup. The grass died. The mutant chickweed stood up and said "Please, sir, may we have some more."

Try napalm, then start over. Start at the neighbors house, then proceed carefully.

I'm looking at our new (and last) sod planting in our backyard. Went down today. It looks nice, but it's kind of dark because my usually awesome wife decided to spray wash construction dust and pollen off of everything, including electrical fixtures that do not do well with water. (This was not the first time, but it's not important to her, so it's a lesson not quickly learned.) So......the breaker that handles all internet and cable TV to the house will not reset until it dries out. I hope that's before football season. :(

We've already downsized. This yard make a postage stamp look expansive. If it weren't so small, I'd have given up and taken another (cheaper) course already. But yes, getting watered 3 times a day now. Fortunately (for us) the water is included in our very reasonable HOA fee. Our lovely neighbors will help carry the expense of getting our new mini-lawn established.

I let my lawn go as nature intends. It is lush and green in the spring and fall, and during the summer heat I don't have to mow it

I just lucked out. Found a John Deere GT242 lawn tractor, with bagger, aerator and thatcher, for $350. In terrific shape. Obviously well maintained. Guy was liquidating his gear before a move south.

That sounds like one heck of a deal!

Nobody does it better than doing the lawn yourself. You won't get it manicured and bagged, etc... This time of season, I will mulch, but bag other times. Services simply don't take their time. And, rightly so, they are out to make $$$ and fast. My 20 year A/C would have grass all in the cooling fins, etc... No thank you. Even if I can't get to it right away... I'd rather let it grow for month and have it done nice.

I just do it myself. Done "right" & clean. :-)

this is what i'm struggling with. we have a fantastic lawn service. they really do a top notch job, but it's just so expensive. $80 per mow, and on occasion they'll cross cut it and charge another 20 bucks. at those prices i could pay for a super nice zero turn in a few years. that being said, i just don't want to spend the time on the lawn each week. i figure between the cutting, weed whacking and blowing off the grass, it could be around 3 hours...maybe 2 and change. on top of that, i don't want to store the mower. i'm so torn on this.

Just dropped $8600 on a Hustler X One It's amazing, the thing flies and has a sweet hydraulic system.

this one is amazing.

My problem now is storing it. My shed is too small.

exactly. i just don't want to use any garage space on a mower. in the winter, we have 3 cars and lawn furniture in our garage. something would have to go, and i have no idea what. i'm not lugging all of that out door furniture into the basement either.

If you live in Loudoun County VA I'll cross cut it for a total of $30 at a time if you have under 1/4 acre. I have ~ 300 sq ft, for 20 to 25 minute job driving, double for cross cut (obviously)

that seems pricey. we have 2 acres worth of lawn that they cut. we had a number of estimates done, and they ranged from 70-110 a cut. we went with the cheapest for 2 years, and the service was pretty lousy. large ruts in the lawn, clumps of grass everywhere. i don't feel so bad about the $80 anymore. on a side note, i have it rigged so that it's a tax write off.
