Last year Lehner was just abysmal in the shootouts, and yet in the games he was usually great against clear breakaways. Stopped them on a regular basis. Not always of course but he was very consistent. It didn't make any sense. It was akin to kickers in the NFL who missed a bunch of extra points but never miss 33-35 yard field goals.

I'm pretty sure Lehrer struggled with breakaways in general. I couldn't find the stats right now. I'll keep looking. But I'm almost sure that he was well below the league average on breakaways in general.

I know he has always struggled with shootout's his entire career. As of last December he was ranked 89th out of 91 qualified goalies in career shootout save %.

It's a shame because he is a pretty strong goalie otherwise. His save percentage was 12th in the NHL. He just seems to struggle mightily on breakaways and shootouts.

Interesting. I'm curious to know if Lehner had been successful in just 50% more of his shootouts, would it have changed our playoff picture last year? Kind of a tough stat to figure out considering who the opponent was and then recalculating points from those games. I understand what Shrader said above, but one on one's do play a part in the overall point totals and success of the team as a whole.

I'll just leave this here. Eichel leads team stretch as practice ends & Housley yells "call them in". Eichel then breaks the team down @WKBW

IMO, this is Eichel's team and it will likely only go as far as he takes them. It only makes sense to name him captain.

Eichel is the man. You don't see that kind of foresight from a young kid these days. He definitely left a good bit of money on the table in order to put the deal behind him and the team, while making it clear he expects them to pay the players around him to make the Sabres a perennial Cup contender.

Isn't this the amount everyone seemed to be saying all along. How much did he leave on the table?

Average annual value

Thanks!

Jason Botterill just said the #SabresNHL_2017_2018_Buff_Sabres.png won't have a captain to start the season.

Yeah I found that interesting. Especially because Housley just said this before the press conference -

http://www.wgr550.com/articles/news/housley-wont-rule-out-bogosian-thursday

"We’re going to evaluate that today, we might have something tomorrow, but obviously we’re going to have to have captains tomorrow in our lineup and we’re going to evaluate that today and we’ll see where that leaves us tomorrow.”

Left me a bit confused. lol

I think it'll be Eichel though. He seems to be looked at as the leader. I think last year when the whole team asked Eichel to be the one to deliver their message to Tim Murray in season ending interviews, it spoke loudly to that.

"He's the leader of this team and we're all really excited for him," O'Reilly said. "He's the guy that's going to help us do something special here for sure. He's a massive, massive part of it."

What's the scoop on the Redmond guy?

AHL depth. Just like Deslauriers, he had already cleared waivers, so both guys will be starting out in the AHL. I suppose he'll be in the competitive mix down there for who gets the first injury callup. He's seen more time in the NHL (130 games) than guys like Fedun (39 games) and Tennyson (105 games), but less than Falk (223 games). If anything, this might just suggest that they want to give Guhle a full year down there interrupted unless he really excels.

Sounds like three players wearing an "A" this season.

Funny, just listened to JR on The Instigators, and man is he the typical douche old NHL player pissed these young guys get what they get. Something to the effect Jack is getting paid based on draft position and expectations and not on actual production. Also chimed in he has to prove he can play 80 games, then made snide remarks on how if 60 pts and 25 goals get you $10M, imagine what he would have been paid as a 40 goal scorer. Felt Buffalo paid to much too soon.

Too bad he forgot to bring up he was top 10 in points and goals only twice in his 17 year career.

Man, is it any wonder NBC sucks at the hockey broadcasts? Does he even watch the NHL and which way the wind is blowing with regards to the young guys and no more bridge contracts?

Listen if you I want, I want to send to Jack so he can play when he needs some motivation.

10-4: JASON BOTTERILL ON WGR (14:17)

#Sabres GM Jason Botterill joins Schopp and the Bulldog right now on WGR! Tune in:

Botterill - We've come to see that Jack shows a level of professionalism and respect

Botterill- The way Jack handled himself in the media showed his professionalism, he was going to focus on himself anyway

Botterill- To get a deal done of this magnitude there has to be compromise on both sides

Botterill- It was very cordial on both sides, we kept the dialog going over summer, thought everyone handled it extremely well

Botterill- There was never a situation where the two were intertwined with the long term contract, and the captaincy

Botterill- We'll announce an assistant captain group here tomorrow, we don't need Jack to take over our room

Botterill- One of the best things we have going in our sport right now is the parity of our league, interested to see how we match up

Botterill- When Guentzel was holding the cup over his head, I don't think anyone was asking why he didn't make the team to start the season

Botterill- I'm looking forward to a packed Key Bank Center tomorrow, just the atmosphere of playing against the Habs, get things going

It is because of instant access that I find it odd. Not bad, just odd that there was no comment until today.
