So what is Lehner's status at end of next year? Is he still RFA and eligible for arbitration again?

On the surface, I really like this deal...only downside is he has a huge year and you're paying more in year 2 ..i liken it to Sammy not being getting the 5th year, which i agree with

Yes he will still be restricted and arb eligible. He has one year after this contract until he would be unrestricted.

The deal may be friendly to the cap but it is an enemy to our W/L record.

He will lead you to the playoffs next year, you will sign him to a huge deal and then he will get fat and lazy, just to !@#$ with you!

7-26: JASON POMINVILLE ON WGR (20:06)

#Sabres forward Jason Pominville joins @TheInstigators next on WGR! Tune in:

Jason Pominville: "I'm pumped. I'm really excited. We couldn't be happier to be back."

Pominville on Marco Scandella: "He does everything really well. He's got a huge shot. He's a horse to play against defensively."

Quick question for the gurus...if these guys get seriously hurt in these summer leagues, they still get paid?

I assume the teams like them playing , just wonder if the players are taking any kind of risk and payment forfeiture if hurt in an activity not sanctioned by the team

How are things looking "realistically" for the Sabres this year? Leafs fans can't wait to get going.

No one really knows. Last year Sabres had two main deficiencies..

1) Blue Line

2) 5-5 Scoring.

They have swapped out what looks like at least 3 D, and maybe more if Guhle makes the big club out of camp( I don't think prayer in hell they start him in the NHL though)

And many think the reason 5-5 scoring was so bad was awful play in their own zone by the D, lack of good crisp breakouts that lead to scoring chances due to awful D, and lack of any scoring really from the D.

If the new D corps can play at least credible and average, the forwards should be able to produce at a level that has them competing for a playoff spot.

If D sucks again, prolly talking about the lottery again.

You left out: 1a. Coaching and system to maximize the current talent.

I see the Sabres as a marginal playoff team i.e. fighting for a lower playoff spot. Our top two lines should be good and our defense should be credible. I see our defensive unit as being credible to average. That in itself is a step forward. The new coach should bring in a more fast paced style compared to the more regimented style of the prior coach. Eichel should thrive in a an offensive system that allows him to freelance more.

I really like the new GM and his approach to not only building a roster but also building an organization. I'm very encouraged about the future.

Also:

Normal person at GM rather than a caustic, arrogant and stupid prick.

But also:

Maintaining starting goalie who is unstable in net and during altercations. Additionally he has displayed bad decision making processes in games, shootouts and in the tattoo parlor chair.

Thanks for the responses on expectations, Sabres are my 2nd favourite team, the preferred city to go and see an NHL game these days.
