I just wish I could solve the mystery of the cosistancy

- TT would go for halves where he was not very productive......then turn it around in second halves

- TT couldnt find Clay at all in some games....and in some games he seemed to find him every other play

- We would struggle offensively passing against some teams.....then explode against teams like Seattle

It's not that hard John. He isn't a consistent of enough passer.

And he played one of his best games against Seattle, but 289 & 1 td isn't exploding for most qbs.

They had a nice second half because they were playing against prevent defenses for the last two quarters of every game.

"Nowhere was Watkins’ ability to take over a game more apparent than in the season finale against the Jets. Going toe-to-toe for most of the game with Darrelle Revis, Watkins was targeted 15 times and had 11 receptions for 136 yards in Buffalo’s 22-17 victory." All prevent defense. terrible, misinformed, agenda posting.

Not only that, but pretend you're a defensive coordinator. The Bills come out in a 3 wide set with Watkins and Maclin split out. Zay Jones is in the slot, Clay at TE, McCoy in the backfield.

How do you choose a receiving option to key on as a defensive play designer when any one of the options could hurt you bigly (thanks Trump) on any passing play?

You play your Ss deep, keep Tyrod in the pocket, and let him try to beat you across the middle. Until he does that consistently, that will be the game plan against us.

I will land a pre emptive strike for some of the group and say "you dont key in on the ones that are in the middle of the field"

:)

(dammit...missed it by 5 seconds)

True, but then how many QBs play that well in Seattle without their top WR?

Haha!!! But it really is true. If Tyrod could even hit those with any consistency, he would be locked up long term.

The Jets in week 17. That's what you're gonna hang your hat on. That one's a tough one to beat.

I remember a huge first half in KC-was KC in the prevent defense in that game in the first half?

We were also a run dominant team which is why i dont discuss passing yards really.....

A worthless stat to me giving our offensive scheme last year

perhaps a bit of that changes this year

You said "every game" which is not true.

One of the best games of his career. Not trying to take it away from him. If I saw this type of game more than 2 or 3 times from him, I'd be more sold.

hrough 11 games, Watkins has 44 receptions for 827 yards and 9 touchdowns. -Averages 18.8 yards per reception which is best in NFL -Catches a 20+ yard pass on 34% of his receptions, good for 3rd in NFL, just behind Green Bay Packers’ James Jones and Jacksonville Jaguars’ Allen Robinson. -15 catches of 20+ yards is T-16th in NFL -9 receiving touchdowns is T-10th in NFL..... 2015 stats.... all prevent defense thoough, right?

But the chicken or the egg, would we pass more with a different qb? Also, more consistent passing would open things for our rbs.

That said, I've derailed this enough. Yes, I would like Maclin a lot. No, I don't think he will sign here.

I'm sold that he is far from terrible, like some think. he's good enough until a better alternative is found. The Bills are 15-14 when he starts. he has 47 TDs with 15 turnovers and 1000 yards rushing. Not terrible.

He went there because they paid a ton, it was his home state, and they are a playoff team. He also had the second best season of his career last year.

I know why he went there and all those reasons are not why you said he probably wouldn't go to Buffalo. You said because of the poor QB play, which didn't stop him from going to KC. So why is it all of a sudden a problem in Buffalo for him? My argument is for why he could fit in this offense, even more so than in KC, which you said he didn't in KC.

If Buffalo can offer him a good chunk of money, they can, his best friend plays here and his WR coach is here, how is that really any different from what KC was offering, which he said yes to? And BTW when Maclin went there in 2015, they weren't a playoff team in 2014.

This highlights the limitations of football stats.

It's true Tyrod didn't pass for a lot of yards per game because he wasn't asked to.

But that begs the question, why didn't the coaches ask for more from Tyrod?

Tyrod has a decent QBR and passer rating because per attempt, he's efficient.

But he doesn't put up a lot of yards per game because (a) the coach's philosophical preference for the run, and/or (b) his coaches don't believe in him enough to call a lot of pass plays.

If last year's answer was (a), we can't blame Tyrod for his comparatively low production. But if was (b), we can.

TT was brought here to manage a run oriented offense which was supposed to have a solid defense.

My comment wasn't about Sam Watkins. I think he's a great WR. He benefited from an all-or-nothing QB. Unfortunately, there's just not enough "all." And usually, the "all" never shows up when we need a TD.
