ESPN: The Seahawks' D Really Resents Russell Wilson

ESPNs Seth Wickersham went long on the simmering drama thats affected the Seattle Seahawks for a while now, with Russell Wilsons goal-line interception at the end of the Super Bowl nearly three years ago still haunting the locker room. The gist is that the defenseand Richard Sherman in particulardoesnt much care for what it perceives to be Pete Carrolls coddling of the offense, especially Wilson.

Wickersham presents a clear contrast between a rough-hewn defense that forged itself into a dominant unit by emphasizing accountability on one side, and the pollyanna-ish positivity that characterizes Carroll and Wilson on the other. Sherman has basically been a pain in the ass about it; one unnamed former assistant coach told Wickersham, referring to Sherman, Hes made it personal. Its your fault were not winning. It wears guys thin. All that tension thus explains why both Sherman and the team were amenable to a trade that couldnt be pulled off earlier in the offseason. There are plenty of morsels in Wickershams story, but the most delicious might be the one from a June 2014 minicamp practice, just four months after the Seahawks won the Super Bowl by curb-stomping Peyton Manning and the Broncos:

According to witnesses, Sherman threw the ball back to Wilson and yelled, You f-ing suck! Another fight broke out. Sherman was cussing and yelling; Wilson seemed stunned. Pete Carroll stopped practice and would later hold a series of meetings to remind the players they needed to build each other up, not tear each other downand that they needed to support their quarterback, further pissing off a defense that already thought the head coach went out of his way to protect him.

yeah I saw that article. didn't bother reading. It's pretty obvious Sherman has had issues about that last play over the course of last season every time there was a goal line pass called by offense. The culture Pete Carroll has been fostering is one based on positive thinking and togetherness. Sherman should be cut honestly. Team and culture is more important than any single player.

Sherman is my least favorite player in the NFL. He really is a smart and intelligent kid but over the top at times, would I love him on the Bills? Of course but his act is getting old.

The Seahawks are not done writing their story. The team is still pretty intact and should be another playoff team.

I actually have enjoyed their playoffs problems the last few years....After SB48, their fans we're absolutely unbearable.....Dynasty this, Dynasty that....after 1 championship !! I hope they don't win another one for years and years....

You mean the 12s.. :wallbash:

Yeah, I can honestly say when the Pats and Seachickens played one another in the SB, I wished it could have ended in a tie like the old college system.

I like them as a team, Russ is entertaining to watch as a Fran Tarkenton clone, and the defense is unreal. In an era when everyone gets cute with blitz schemes, substitutions, "moneybackers", etc. etc. , they just line up in Cover 3 and say "beat us". Few teams do.

I think they'll win another championship or two, they have too much young talent on long term contracts not to.

Don't get me wrong, they are one of the best 4 teams in the NFC with Dallas, Green Bay and Atlanta.....And they are entertaining ...just can't stand their fans....( I live in Seahawks country )....If they win another one, it will only get worse.....

Why would a corner back care that his QB is treated well by the head coach? Because Sherman can't stand not having the glory put on him. He'll say it's defense vs offense but he's the kind of person that would bring on that division. This is about jealousy.

If you're stupid enough to not understand QB's are/have been treated different for decades and at every level - then Harvard smart can no longer be used to describe you.

The dislike of Russ seems petty and jealous. But I will say I thought something was up with him before our MNF game there last year, when he did the interview in the tunnel and looked like he just had a pre-game date with "Molly." It was bizarre.

Well...If he thinks Russell Wilson sucks I hate to see Sherman on the about the 25 or so teams with worse QB situations... B-)

i think he may have realized that when Carroll came to him with the list of teams they would trade him to. Then he was like nahhhh just kidding! I love t here! Edited by YoloinOhio

You wonder whether this article (a) conflates the entire Seattle defense with Sherman's issues, and (b) conflates Sherman popping off at times with his whole mindset. It has a click bait-feel to it, building the largest possible conclusion off a few hot head incidents. I don't doubt Sherman is a pretty smart guy, but he could definitely use an extra helping of impulse control.......

Sherman is one of a couple players that I would have no problem seeing get injured

he does seem like an incredible d-bag. but i wonder how much is him, and how much is this wrestling heel persona he has created for himself.
