ndirish1978 Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Carpenter was the worst kicker in the league last year. 76% on FGs, missed 5 XPs, and can't do kickoffs... Just being middle of the road is a huge upgrade. Hauschka AAV is under 3 mil per year... It's not like we went on a crazy spending spree at kicker... we just knew we needed that position to be better than it was. Yes - he missed 6 XPs in 2016. He also was 6/6 from 50+ in 2015 - and had 54 touchbacks to carpenters 28 in 2016. Correct. I would also point out that PK identified Haushka as a player whose play has declined, he didn't say the guy was a terrible kicker.
What a Tuel Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I'd like to point out that Seattles line isn't spectacular, and I believe ours is much better.
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I suggest Peter King look up the stats. Hauschka is the third most accurate field goal kicker in history, and over his career he's succeeded on more than 50% of his attempts over 50 yards. Yes, Hauschka struggled last year, but he's been a great kicker, he isn't too old, and the Bills have made about the 10th highest paid kicker in the league. It just isn't all that unusual. Yep. It's an upgrade over what was there AND the guy can boot a kickoff into the end zone without needing a specialist that kicks a football 5 times a game.

YoloinOhio Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I'm not sure how this wouldn't be considered an upgrade. Carpenter is still out there unsigned (did he even make a visit?) and Haushka was signed on the 1st day of FA. Pretty sure there is a reason for that. If anything was not an upgrade it was the Seahags signing the infamous Blair Walsh and letting Haushka walk.

But hey, they got him cheap! Oh and Justin Tucker is being paid $4.2M/year.
PirateHookerMD Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Carpenter had an off year in Miami before getting cut. Then he had some great seasons with us, before again sucking. It happens with Kickers. At a minimum at least Hauscka can kickoff, and don't be surprised if that rookie punter takes out Colton.

Wouldn't surprise me if just a change in scenery will let us squeeze two solid years out of Hauschka.
