Nope. He got fired because Sean got hired and wanted to bring in Beane.

He got fired because he didn't do his job good enough, and EJ was one of the bad jobs he did. Sorry.

No, your opinion doesn't match the facts of the matter. If Whaley was fired for performance why was he involved in the coaching search?

Don't know for sure, but it could be that he was told to do that and it was his job.

The Pegulas had the ultimate say in the new HC. And of course McDermott wanted Beane-he works well with him and Beane is a much better overall football guy than Whaley. Whaley's body of work was not good enough.

"It was notable that, the day before the "formal" interview that would include Whaley and former director of player personnel Jim Monos, the Pegulas invited McDermott to join them for dinner on their yacht in Boca Raton, Fla.

He had the Pegulas at "hello." He impressed them so much, that as Kim drove McDermott to the airport after the next day's six-hour session, she was already telling him to have his wife (who had been invited to Boca Raton as well, but couldn't make the trip) call her for information about housing and other essentials in Western New York.

Whaley's virtual disappearance from public view after McDermott's arrival wasn't a coincidence. It was a fulfillment of a condition of McDermott's employment."

Of course. Whaley's body of work and his vision, whatever that was, wasn't good enough for McDermott.

And at least 3 of the reasons why McD demanded he be fired can be found in that article.

This is about what actually happened. Fans can justify it after the fact with reasons but Whaley is gone because McDermott demanded total control and the Pegulas gave it to him.

Saw Doug on my way out the door Saturday night at Curly's in Lackawanna. Doug was at the bar with a couple of other guys and I over heard him say "F@#K THE BILLS!" I wish I could I stayed a while longer to hear what he had to say. I was surprised to see him in the Buffalo area still.

Classy guy that whaley is...

Are you really trying to say that Whaley's body of work as GM had no bearing on McDermott not wanting him back as GM? Not to mention the Pegulas? That is ridiculous.

And McD demanded control because Whaley was terrible at his job. There's no way you can twist this firing around into anything but he was lousy at his job.

Yes. Read the article. McDermott wanted full control. His opinion of Whaley is irrelevant since his demands for total power came BEFORE he was hired.

is there a link, not some supposed fan of the teams opinion but an actual statement where McD demanded complete control?

not the bn link, they're nothing but a speculative source as yourself, I want to see a transcript where McD demands complete control...?

lol He wanted full control because Whaley was not good at his job.His poor performance with drafting QBs is one of the poor things he did as GM.

Whaley may well have not been good at his job but it is irrelevant. You stated Mcdermott started working with Whaley and then thought, "Oh, time for a change."

McDermott claimed Pegulas came to the realization it was time for a change AFTER the draft!

The Buffalo News spells out the facts, Mcdermott was getting his people in. If you like that, great. But don't change the facts or the timeline.
