Not a bad signing overall.

Much more worried about our JV secondary. If we don't get constant QB pressure as well though this current secondary will get absolutely torched all day.

Yeah. I'm starting to feel good about our front 7. It's the back four that worry me. Poyer is our starting safety? One of our starting CBs looks to be a rookie and the other is a guy who struggle a bit last year.

I do feel better about Hyde than some others. Still, the defensive backfield doesn't inspire tons of confidence in me at this point.

If Lawson can improve and they stay healthy(or not get suspended)our front seven looks pretty damn good.

Biggest thing is health.

Usually the case league wide

I will give the Bills credit, they signed Streater and Hodges- things I didn't expect. Too bad god spoke with Boston at a gas station, otherwise, we'd have had a solid late free agency period. Here's hoping we can land Gary B soon.

Fortunately, that's McDermott's strength so maybe he's thinking he can coach them up.

If the team can add a safety from the crop on the market (Byrd, IAQ, Rashard Johnson) and lure Barnidge here, I'll feel a whole lot better about the level of competition to make the roster than I did a month ago.

This is a big move. Finding a starter at this point of the year is not easy. Great move by the Bills!!

Exactly! This is what gives me confidence in the orginzation is moving in the right direction.

While it's not a huge splash that most fans love because the media will galvanize the move and give the team coverage.

However, these subtle moves this late in the process help sure up a roster.

Yes but teams with the better starting QBs and coaches can sustain injuries better(assuming the injury isn't to the QB).

And we are thin at many positions.

I don't disagree with you, but I have a serious question. Have you ever posted something positive?

I think Poyer is the weak link but between Hyde, Darby, White and Seymour I feel decent about the rest of the secondary. Rex's system was so, so bad that he left the secondary exposed. Darby will bounce back.

I thought he just did. Unfortunately, not about the team that this forum is set to discuss. But it was positive in regards to other teams Edited by MiltonWaddams

That's probably the area I'm most unsure about. I like Ryan Davis but, after him, it's unproven guys, rookies and a former Arena Leaguer.

Curse you not being healthy, Scott Crichton!!!!

I don't know...if you include Alexander in that mix both in the case of injury and as a pass-rush specialist, It's not a bad group. You aren't going to dress more than 4 or 5 in a given week anyway.

i dont see any reason that cant happen if they let the guys up front going huntin' like the previous 2 years before rex showed up. i mean if you think about the 5 primary rushers that will being after the qb, its really quite impressive.

i agree. the secondary is worrisome.... i'm cautiously optimistic that rush can help them out quite a bit though.

Remember too that most of our time will be in the nickel. Ragland/Hodges/Brown/Alexander/Humber to fill out what will mostly only be two linebackers on the field is more than fine by me.

Still concerned about Poyer. Let's hope for another Lawyer Milloy-type release this offseason. Fingers crossed.

I would worry more about the depth than Poyer...He's a smooth athlete, played corner at an all-american level in college, and is, by all accounts, a heady player. He's not an all-pro or anything, but he can contribute. Additionally, it's fairly clear he was targeted as a free agent...so clearly the staff sees him as a fit.

Agreed.

Realistically.......probably too thin to avoid a long losing skid at some point in the season........but with an uptick in soft tissue health like that we've seen from coaches like Greggo and Marrone who insisted on excellent conditioning......they might be able to overcome some serious roster depletion earlier in the offseason.

Fwiw.......this may also be the other shoe in the Cyrus story. Yeah, he might have been cut for off-field reasons but it's also possible they wanted his scratch to help sign Hodges and possibly others.

Good signing no doubt. Walks in as the immediate starting favorite for WLB. But why a 1 year deal? He's a young and decent player who should do well in this scheme. I can see another Z.Brown situation.
