Saxum
Not surprising in this era where corporate salaries and bonuses are out of control that when confronted by shareholder ire they decide to basically replace a large portion of workforce with fewer lower paid employees who probably were unemployed before hence will grab any position. IBM can basically claim they are not downsizing but it is what they are doing. The best employees will take positions at other companies and some of others will take involuntary transfer until they can find a position,
Johnny Hammersticks
Wow. My uncle is going to be SOL. My aunt just retired last year, they sold their house in Batavia, and he's been working from their new retirement home near Lake Placid. He's been working for IBM for over 30 years, and was planning on working 5-6 more years. Jeez...

Royale with Cheese
My company did the exact opposite. We were losing talented IT guys because we didn't allow telecommuting. We got tired of losing them so we allowed them to work from home and all other departments can as well.
