plenzmd1 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 WTF nobody mentioned Americas Test Kitchen or Cooks Country? Doesn't anybody watch PBS? By far my favorites, along with Project Smoke with Reichlin(sp) . I do miss Chris Kimball this season on ATC. I liked Secrets of a Resturant Chef with Anne Burrell when it was on as well.
The Poojer Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Alton Brown - Good Eats Andrew Zimmern - Bizarre Foods(not really cooking show, but food discovery show)
Nervous Guy Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 By far my favorites, along with Project Smoke with Reichlin(sp) . I do miss Chris Kimball this season on ATC. I liked Secrets of a Resturant Chef with Anne Burrell when it was on as well. Kimball is cool in a really nerdy way...Anne is awesome, then she went to that stupid Worst Cooks or whatever show with RR.
Jauronimo Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Top Chef is my favorite by far. I do enjoy DD&D even though I hate Guy Fieri. Its weird.
Augie Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 WTF nobody mentioned Americas Test Kitchen or Cooks Country? Doesn't anybody watch PBS? I had America's Test Kitchen a few posts ahead of you! My wife sees DDD and moans "oh, the fat guy with food on his face again". So I change the channel. She hates the food shows because they make her hungry. Strangely, it doesn't have that effect on me.
thebandit27 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 (edited) Chopped, Top Chef, and Man v Food were the best, with a nod to the Iron Chef shows as well. Edited May 15, 2017 by thebandit27

My wife hates Guy Fieri...not sure why...I like that show too,...but it always makes me hungry!! The only one that has that effect on me. I also subscribe to Cook Country mag...it's great! Tons of recipes...got the latest one the other day on the cover "the ultimate bacon burger"! WOO HOO!!!

Pine Barrens Mafia Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I'm breaking out my ascot you bastard! And the brandy snifter?
May Day 10 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 That "The Kitchen" show is good. Always filled with useful do-at-home stuff and easy fare. The nerdy old guy has Buffalo ties as well. Diners, Drive-Ins, etc... is good too I hate to admit. Guy Fieri annoys me, and so does the show.... but when the wife is watching it always captivates me for a bit.
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I forgot to mention Esquire's "Knife Fight"
Pete Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I have been a chef the past 30 years and hate celebrity chefs, and 99% of the **** on food network. As stated, America's Test Kitchen and Cooks County are excellent. This is the greatest cooking show around IMO_ http://www.thirteen.org/programs/mike-colamecos-real-food/ Mike Colameco is a bad dude too. He runs ironman triathalons and is an excellent boxer as well. He has more talent in his pinkie then Fieri, rachel ray and bobby flay combined. !@#$ those posers!
Rockpile233 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I lose interest in food/cooking shows easily without a competitive element. Chopped is my favorite.

Miyagi-Do Karate Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 In terms of competition shows, "the next food network star" is pretty good. Not in the same league as top chef. But pretty solid.
BillsFanNC Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Alton Brown - Good Eats Andrew Zimmern - Bizarre Foods(not really cooking show, but food discovery show) These.
UConn James Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I would have to say "A Chef's Life" on PBS that follows Vivian Howard's NC / Southern cooking is one of the easiest to watch. It's down-home and really well-produced. "Mind of a Chef" on the Netflix is really good for topics and I enjoyed the first chef that was featured on it with the ramen and Japanese influences of his heritage. "Chef's Kitchen" is really artsy and more personality / ambiance driven than about the actual food, but it is visually beautiful. I don't have pay-TV so I can't rate any of the Food Network shows and such, but when I have seen ones like that where it's competition and judges and whatnot, I just don't like that. The ATK and Cook's Country ones are really helpful for the aspiring home cook to learn some new techniques. And while I don't hate Chris Kimball as the host, I don't really miss him either.
