McDermott will be fired some day. Mark my words that eventually he will be fired.

Look how easy it is to be "right"?

The problem with the gentleman at the paper are that they simply say take a 50/50 and then ignore all the times they are wrong and trumpet when they are right. Always calling tails on a coin flip isn't analysis, it's just always calling tails.

Nope McD will retire after 25 years and many superbowls.

To me the bad contracts and the number of FAs we had, the cap situation is on both Whaley and Overdorf. Not just one of them. They have to work together and know if we sign player A to X number of dollars how that will affect us down the road with other players.

Anyone listening to WGR - lady called in and said she works for the Bills and everyone knew this was coming and it was just official this morning. She sounded hammered but said she is going to 5:00 mass

...little buzz before passing the chalice I guess.......

Sure, because the Pegulas see what a real football man is supposed to be in McDermott. Time for Whaley to go after seven years.

Or McDermott was going to stop at nothing until he got everything he wanted. TPegs seems a bit gullible and maybe McDermott fed on that and threw everyone under the bus.

To give a newbie so much so soon sure seems odd. I dunno just a thought.

Well, at least it is comforting to know that the Pegulas will be LEADING the search for a new GM - NOT. (JFC)

REALLY?

McDermott is respected around the league. this was long overdue.

Yeah, their all respected around the league.

Not arguing it wasn't overdue but soooo much power so soon. Resume is kinda thin, first time head coach, when ever has a first time head coach been given so much authority?

Yes. And also, obviously, input from previous coaches who assist in putting values on the players.

May it be so, as long as it is with us

Recently only Gase and Quinn. They both are running the shows.

But yea, I agree. It's a lot to just give a first time head coach that much power not matter how much they are "respected" around the league. The NFL is a gentlemans club, everyone is respected.

Well the one good thing about giving McCoach so much power is that we wont constantly be changing schemes especially on defense.

GMs virtually never change schemes. Only coaches do. Sometimes a GM looking for a coach will know the strength of his team leans toward a certain kind of scheme which could affect his search to some degree. But that doesn't really matter at all. If Mickey Rat is here more than three years it will be because he wins. Yes he will run his scheme and draft to that scheme, but Whaley was drafting to his HC's scheme all this time, too.

I understand that Whaley may or may not have been responsible for hiring of any head coaches during his reign, but the one decision that he DID make was the Watkins fiasco. Technically Buddy Nix selected EJ Manuel so I am not going to directly blame him for that pick. But the Watkins move was pretty sad. It had been said before that draft that it was going to be a good year for WR's... That decision alone could be justification for firing Whaley IMHO... In essence Whaley wasted two #1 draft picks with that decision... I don't know how anyone can possibly defend that one...

When I look at the video posted by the Bills of their War Room during the Watkins decision, I question to what extent the Watkins trade-up was really Whaley's decision, which is in and of itself, a major problem IMO.

That Whaley had strong input, giving Watkins a very high grade that would justify that pick, I have no doubt. But look at that video and note how Whaley is relaying info about the cost to Overdorf and Brandon...IIRC someone else there from the Bills FO too, LaMattina?....I think Russ Brandon and LaMattina/Overdorf had a lot of input, and that part of the decision was driven by need for "marketing hype" I have little doubt. (Brandon...formerly involved more than you know, now involved less than you think).

Which is a long-winded way of saying I disagree that decision alone would be justification for firing Whaley.

I would like to think that the Pegulas have realized that the Bills distributed decision-making network has led to distributed responsibility and they intend to bring in a higher-level GM who will supervise all aspects of the salary cap/negotiation process instead of leaving part of it in the FO under Overdorf and part under Whaley. I think that Whaley did not have the experience/comfort level to be that guy and to the extent that he was involved, wasn't making very smart decisions in many instances (Hogan, Gilmore, and Gillislee would be three; Tyrod's last year's contract would be four) or really staying on top with a long-term plan.

But we'll see. If they leave Overdorf and the Overdorf-LaMattina-Brandon reporting structure in place and hire basically a glorified scout, we'll know it's SNAFU.

Funny how all those reports that were decried as "made up", are all true.

People love to hate Sullivan, but once again him and Gleason were 100% right.

But the same radio people will blindly start trumpeting the Bills horn and the same fans will write rosey pictures about how the Bills are doing everything right.

Don't worry McDermott will have another cliche to spit out to make everyone feel better.

The owners, some fans and some media may love McDermott, but I'm not buying it all. He sounds just like Dick Jauron and Doug Marrone when he talks.

Here's an idea. Make Bucky and Sully co-GMs of the Bills and Sabres. Seeing that they are 100% right 100% of the time, it should be a piece of cake making both teams dynasties. Edited by PromoTheRobot

Love this analysis! I have to remember it. Great

I've never heard any football guy I respect say another other than McD was a great hire! If he doesn't work out it will be for other reasons in the organization.

Is it too soon for Uber? Think they'll cut her off at the holy wine bar?

Before long, we can can them both and be out of their misery?
