MAJBobby Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Per @Viccarucci Hearing #Bills unlikely to pick up 5th-year option on Sammy Watkins by May 2 deadline. Not while he's still recovering from foot surgery.
nucci Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 (edited) If he has a great year , just tag him. Still, it's Carucci Edited April 29, 2017 by nucci
CommonCents Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 If he has a great year , just tag him Then you still lose a year of leverage. They have no good players to pay, the Sammy trade sucked but this is a stupid decision. Just tag him and hope for the best. Otherwise they are going to be over paying FA's with that same money.
Buddy Hix Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 The 5th year option includes an injury guarantee, with Sammy's history the Bills really have no choice but to pass on the option. Not that the Jones trade was bad but it's hard to ignore that the Watkins trade forced the Bills into it.
LEBills Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Carucci has been very off lately. Let's see what really happens.
YoloinOhio Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 It's all because of the injury guarantee that they wouldn't pick it up. The franchise tag is a better option and hope to sign him long term instead.
Niagara Dude Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 He will go to another team and have a HOF career, this franchise is screwed if they don't pick it up.
Imissbeastmode Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 This guy is still recovering from a foot injury from 3 season ago. Bust
Ittakestime Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I think we will struggle to get Sammy to sign long term and I wouldn't blame him. Therefore I would pick up the option and then you can tag him the following year. Hopefully by that time you have a QB where he will be more inclined to sign.
Bill_with_it Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Wow I mean he literally was just playing basketball. Me thinks there is more to it than that.
PromoTheRobot Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 If he has a great year , just tag him. Still, it's Carucci Really. If Vic says they won't the Bills will pick up the option
YoloinOhio Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 @spotrac The #Bills now have 10 WRs on their roster at a combined $13.7M in average salaries, the going rate for 1 top-paid WR currently.
Heitz Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 He will go to another team and have a HOF career, this franchise is screwed if they don't pick it up. If he has a big year, give him a big long term contract, or tag him ($2MM more than the 5th year option per GR55).
Saint Doug Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Wow I mean he literally was just playing basketball. Me thinks there is more to it than that. Yes. He's injury prone. Unfortunately, it's time to turn the page. He's been great, it's just one thing after another with him.
nucci Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Then you still lose a year of leverage. They have no good players to pay, the Sammy trade sucked but this is a stupid decision. Just tag him and hope for the best. Otherwise they are going to be over paying FA's with that same money. I don't agree either...just looking at options. No reason to not pick it up
Ittakestime Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 If he has a big year, give him a big long term contract, or tag him ($2MM more than the 5th year option per GR55). We wouldn't spend a couple extra hundred grand to tag Hogan and Gilly at higher tags. What makes you think we would just give Sammy an extra 2 million?
