KellyToughII Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Seattle and Green bay traded out of the 1st completely. We did exactly what fans have been bitching they wished we could do and act like New England and make NE Moves and that is exactly what we did. The entire draft last night blew up every "experts" lists. We traded down, didn't reach for a QB, and got an additional 3rd, a 1st next year and a damn solid Corner that fits OUR SYSTEM. That is a great job by McDermott who sees the big picture. This was a great move, best by this franchise in many years, but some people will never be happy.
BringBackOrton Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Every fan is a different person with different opinions and you can never make everyone happy. I would've liked to see Watson at #10. The need for CB was self-inflicted. The value of the 2018 first is overstated.
K D Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 traded down too far, missed out on a lot of good players 15-25, didn't get enough in return considering KC is a good team that will be picking at the end of the 1st next year. glad we traded back, wished it would have been for a 2nd rounder this year as well as a 1st next considering where KC typically picks or I wish it was with a team that picked earlier. houston will be terrible this year, the Browns might have 2 top 10 picks!
KellyToughII Posted April 28, 2017 Author Posted April 28, 2017 I hope we trade down again from #10 in the 2nd.

Umm, because Seattle and Green Bay -- perennial playoff teams, both with true franchise QBs locked up -- are not exactly similarly situated with a team that hasn't sniffed the playoffs in 17 years?

I think the only way the Bills were going to get more than they did, was if there were two teams fighting to move up to ten from the twenties and they got into a bidding war. And there was no true, clear cut, franchise QB in this draft. We are doing what great teams do to build the team
Buffaloed in Pa Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 I didn`t at first. Now it`s growing on me.
BILLSviaPHILLY Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Next year's QB class is much better. A 3rd rounder in this deep draft is very valuable. And the value of two 1st round picks is definitely not overstated. If anything, it's being underplayed by even those who support the trade. The flexibility they will have is an advantage that cannot be overstated.
Woodman19 Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Proof is in the pudding, fans will love the trade this time next year when we have two firsts and a better feel for McDermott.
mjt328 Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 1. Some people had their heart set on a certain player, such as OJ Howard, Malik Hooker or Reuben Foster. So they are mad we passed on a guy they liked. 2. Some people were going to be upset unless we drafted a Quarterback. Period. 3. Some people think that because we let a starting Cornerback leave in free agency, it is stupid to draft his replacement in the First Round. 4. Some people are going to complain no matter what we do.
CardinalScotts Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 because we have some disappointment not getting player X that we all have heard of and believe will be a good player. Get beyond that it's a good move

Straight Hucklebuck Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Because its all the same thing. McDermott is talking about coming in and competing. That's what every coach the last 97 years here talks about. Working hard. Because for the 11th time since 1990 the Bills have taken a corner. Because once again the Bills have kicked the can down the road at Quarterback. You have to hope now that Watson and Mahomes don't pan out, or else that's two more AFC teams you will have to try and hop over if you ever want to win anything again. Its not that I'm mad, but golf clap, we take another corner and are trending towards the same 6,7,8 wins again. That's why. Pretty simple.

We took another corner that fits this system and is an outstanding leader and player. We took a corner because a good, but not great, corner demanded GREAT CB money and McDermott smartly said no. It was a very smart move.

I would have done a deal with Houston knowing how bad of a team they will be with a rookie QB. If you are going to deal with KC then you need to get more considering where they pick (late in the round)
PastaJoe Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 So does this mean that the priority now is for the Bills to tank this season so they get a higher pick to package with the KC pick to get a QB, or a high enough pick to get a QB with that pick? Or is the priority to make the playoffs and get a lower pick that may prevent them from moving up to get a top QB?

Fans need to get over rooting for us to draft "a position" and simply root for our front office to make smart decisions. I've been following these boards long enough to remember the OUTRAGE when the Bills passed on guys like Jimmy Clausen, Ryan Mallet, Johnny Manziel and Bryce Petty. People complained about us taking other positions instead of QB. But if we would have drafted any of those guys, our team would be infinitely worse than today. It's possible that passing on Mahomes/Watson will come back to haunt us. But it's also possible we dodged a bullet. Right now, it's impossible to know.
