Look at Jacksonville. Coughlin is the puppet master.

If we had hire Polian he would have installed his son as GM.

First, you're presuming knowledge that no one could possibly have....second, debate can be had on exactly WHO to hire as the Czar, but to me - there is NO debate any longer that one is needed for both franchises. And, keep in mind I was NEVER one to be a strong proponent of the idea.....I understood it, but was essentially tepid on the notion of a Czar....now, I have no doubt when I consider the Sabres and the current state of the Bills. At this point we shall agree to disagree, but I think there are football minds in the business who would love the idea to be the Czar to resurrect the Bills relevance and orchestrate a playoff / Super Bowl caliber roster and organization.

There is a hockey thread in Off the wall.

Personally I think Pegulas should look closely at options when lease expires for stadium.

Press and certain portion of "fan base" will never be happy.

Thank you. I know.

That the 2 teams share the same ownership and are suffering through equally dismal results, I started this one on the main page as there is even more to get into with the Bills management team. Posters here have been consistently referencing the Bills moves under the Pegs ownership, citing same and differing issues.

Plus, that thread is 183 pgs...

We are in agreement that they should hire a great hockey and great football mind. The issue I have with the czar game is you end up choosing over the hill dinosaurs who became famous for a different skillset needed than the current job.

He works for the Hawks with his son. Why would he now work for the Sabres?

Kind of a tongue-in-cheek response... but maybe because the Sabres are the only NHL team he's ever been associated with that didn't at least make it to the Cup Finals while he was with them? (Won Cups with the Canadiens, Penguins, Red Wings, and Hawks; made it to the finals three years in a row with the Blues.)

Lindy for GM and he hires his coach. Ruff didn't not accept an extension in Dallas and lives in the B-Lo still :)

Why GM.....no experience at all

I was thinking this already, not a half bad idea

How do GM's who have never been GM's get the experience? When all the GM's die, what happens then?

I don't care about credibility. Being a great coach doesn't make one a great president or GM.

You do realize what he did for Jacksonville. The guy knows football inside and out.

I agree with this and Russ Brandon is like a snake in the grass....behind the scenes and he is more involved then he should be.

Until Russ Brandon is shown the door, I will view the Pegulas as clueless.

Anyone who thinks he's just the ticket sales and marketing guy is fooling themselves.

That's why you hire front office people who are one position away from the top. Sabres should look into Michael Futa of the LA Kings.

Let's be honest. Ralph's entire ownership reign was failure after failure with one small window of getting lucky in the middle. The Bills were a joke in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. Did ok from late-80s through the 90s, then right back to being the same joke team that lost to the Dolphins for a decade straight (70s), and then the Pats for almost 2 decades straight.

Come on at least get the facts correct! Terrible, misrepresentation of the facts and BS

Not sure how it's invalid when I'm referencing the true NFL as we know it, and you guys want to talk about "championships" we won in a league that was only 4-5 years old and subpar to the established NFL (of that time).

But I just saw the leagues merged in 1970, so my mention of the 60s was irrelevant anyways.

Either way, those AFL championships dont count for squat, and the team sucked through the 70s (immediately following the merger). So my initial point, that the Bills have been a joke franchise far more than a good franchise, still stands.

Ok, fine, then exclude most of the 1960s in your argument. I agree that they were terrible for most of the 1970s, 80s, and have remained so since 2000.

Why Lindy for anything? Because he is familiar? Never won anything and only came close when he had arguably the best goalie ever.

Yes, exclude the 60s since it was all AFL anyways. This team, in the NFL, is a loser.

i predict whaley will be fired one week after draft

it would be baffling to have him run the coaching search, free agency and the draft with the assumption that he wasnt good enough at those tasks to retain his job.

now if something has gone off the rails behind the scenes in the last few weeks or during the draft that is different -- but if the decision was made semi-early in the process id be very frustrated as a fan.

Yeah it's media and fans' fault Pegulas are clearly in way over their heads with both franchises.

The "just happy to have a team" vibe left with Ralph.

The new boss talked a huge game with the Sabres purchase, and here we are at square-one again. It's put up or shut up time. Honeymoon's long over.

Couldn't agree more.
