Bleeding Bills Blue Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Match it. He is worth more to the Bills than a 5th round pick. Does he push us to the playoffs this year?
Royale with Cheese Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 What if McCoy goes down? We lost a very good backup, on a roster that has bad depth overall. We lost a very good back up in Karlos Williams and we were just fine. A guy averaging 6 carries a game isn't irreplaceable....

John from Riverside Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 You mean like the rookie RB we drafted last year who had such a MAJOR impact...cough cough <Jonathan Williams> cough cough To be fair...its not like Jonathan actually got a chance to show his stuff......sitting behind what....3 other running backs?
LabattBlue Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 (edited) Williams can't get better? I mean how much production were you expecting out of a 3rd string rookie? Are you talking about the rookie who couldn't beat out the "dime a dozen RB" like Gillislee or get playing time over the great Reggie Bush? Edited April 18, 2017 by LabattBlue
John from Riverside Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Does he push us to the playoffs this year? Its not as simple as that In a dom run offense which this figures to be you have to have a real contingency plan if your starter goes down
Bleeding Bills Blue Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Considering what the Cheaters gave Burkhead (1 year deal for $3.15M after a 75 carry, 344 yard and 2 TD season), this is a good deal. I'd match it. Seems like the going rate for a backup RB now, although MG is a better backup than the others guys who got similar money. As for the 2nd round tender, it would have retained him for 1 year. Then he's an UFA next year. This way they can have him for 2. The 2nd round tender boosts the starting point for extension negotiations. At that point he's almost guaranteed to be a UFA in 2018. We can have him for 2, or someone else for 4. I may tend towards keeping him... just because we draft so terribly in the late rounds.
John from Riverside Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 2017 Bills 4-12 enjoy. bison...you HAVE to be top 3 of trolls on this board
akm0404 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 2017 Bills 4-12 enjoy. What do you predict their record will be if they retain MG?

fridge Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Folks are acting like it was a binary choice: 5th round tender or 2nd round tender. It wasn't. They also could've signed him to a cap-friendly extension that would've avoided this entire problem. Doug Whaley is decent enough at scouting and drafting players (although he has a horrible blind spot when it comes to scouting QBs). He has NO IDEA how to build a roster, plan for the future, or work seamlessly with a coach. Nor can he interface with the media or the Bills' community (ex players, etc). He is a horrible, awful general manager. I'm really coming around to this. It might have been overreacting the first few times, but at this point... I don't think there's a plan.
bilzfancy Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Are you talking about the rookie who couldn't beat out the "dime a dozen RB" like Gillislee or get playing time over the great Reggie Bush? you're right, players never improve going from their rookie year to their 2nd
Eric Moulds on my A** Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 bison...you HAVE to be top 3 of trolls on this board I'd say he's more of a 5th rounder, dime a dozen troll.
without a drought Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 2017 Bills 4-12 enjoy. Is that with or without Gillislee?
Royale with Cheese Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Are you talking about the rookie who couldn't beat out the dime a dozen RB like Gillislee? You really think the #2 spot was up for grabs after Williams was cut? Williams didn't even play the year before. Let's think....rookie who didn't play in 2015 or a vet who is coming back in his second year in the system? I'm guessing you think players can't move up in the depth chart after their first year....Gillisee was always a #2 back right?
xsoldier54 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Ian RapoportVerified account @RapSheet 3m3 minutes agoMore Here we go: #Patriots extended an RFA offer sheet to #Bills RB Mike Gillislee. It’s for 2 years, $6.4M, source said. $4M in the 1st year. Quite sure we'll match. That's a pretty reasonable amount for Gillislee.
Doc Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 And it seems apparent that the Cheaters waited so long to tender him because AP and Blount want too much money. Like that guy said, I can't imagine Blount is too happy about the offer to MG.
