papazoid Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 if you wait til next year for a QB all the good ones will be gone before we pick
Jamie Nails Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 There are two QBs in this draft That will turn out to be very good ones.... Find them and take them. Otherwise your are just treading the 8-8 (+/-) two games every year. Wish it were that easy.
Jamie Nails Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Gotta swing first. Lotta teams been swinging for many years.
John from Riverside Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 He is a solid backup guy who can give you maybe 3 wins but you dont want starting for any long amount of time. Its a good move because now we dont have to reach for a qb at 10 (and frankly we should not)

Jamie Mueller Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 If the Bills add a 4th quarterback before training camp... it's likely to be someone who falls through the upcoming draft..
MAJBobby Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Lotta teams been swinging for many years. Yeah and they will get their QB faster than a team that doesn't. That is just how it works
stuvian Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 we now have back up QB solidified. Maybe we'll draft a starter
oldmanfan Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 You could swing a dead cat at all the veteran backups out there, take whichever one it hit, and it would work out about the same. Yates makes as much sense as anyone else since he played for Dennison. So a very reasonable move. And it doesn't preclude them drafting a guy.
BuffAlone Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Here we go again signing bad QBs...as a backup,we could do worse. He's bern to the playoffs, and won. Not a bad 2nd string option
Eric Moulds on my A** Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 He looks like an IT guy or branch level banket more then an athlete. And Glennon looks like Earthworm Jim... At the very least this guy has WON a playoff game under some serious pressure, being that he was thrusted in the role of starting QB in that environment. Succeeding under those circumstances points the needle in favor of him, imo. In fact he's been one of the more legitimate QB's Houston has trotted out recently. (More of an indictment of Houston of course, their QB decision making has been awful.)

(More of an indictment of Houston of course, their QB decision making has been awful.) He was awful in the playoffs. He completed 51% of his passes for 343 yards, 1 td, 3 INTs, & a qb rating of 53.8 in two playoffs games. Let's settle down on him "winning" playoffs games. That said, he was much better in the regular season. He has completes 58% of his passes, with 5! Tds, only 8 INTs, & 72.8 qb rating. Much improved! I'm fine with him competing for a job. But I would rather Jones or some rookie play if we have to go to a backup qb. Yates bring nothing expect he probably will know the plays.
folz Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) Good signing. In the NFL, you have to have a plan B, plan C, etc. Let's say the Bills want to draft Trubisky at 10. They love him, they're all in. And then he goes off the board before 10. Now what? Do they reach for one of the guys they didn't love? probably not. Well, now we are going into next season with Taylor, Cardale, and what a 6th round rookie QB or a veteran who is worse than TJ (because we waited too long to find one)? Now let's say Tyrod (God forbid) misses 4 games. If Cardale truly isn't ready to start, well then the playoff drought continues. Do you remember 2013? We went into the season with EJ, Thad, and Tuel. Do we really want that again? TJ was probably one of the top FA QBs out there, albeit among a very weak group who were available. He's a little insurance. They can roll with the 3 QBs now on the roster if nothing better appears, but it doesn't preclude them from drafting a QB if they really believe one of them is worthy of a top 10 pick or top 45 pick. If they have someone in mind and we are unable to draft him, at least we have a backup with some experience, not a rookie and raw 1st year player. Nice move. Edited April 10, 2017 by folz
Brianmoorman4jesus Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I absolutely love this! I have wanted TJ Yates here for a couple of years. Great job Doug
liverpoolkev Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) He's Better than EJ that's for sure. He has played under Dennison so that is a plus. There isn't much out there as FA QB. I have a feeling we will Draft Chad Kelly with a 6th and put him on the Practice Roster. No one will pick up Kelly and Put him on their active roster. He needs a lot of work. He is the same as EJ, a back up. Don't unpack your bags TJ you are nothing more than training camp fodder Edited April 10, 2017 by liverpoolkev

I'd argue that EJ and Thad are both better qbs than Yates. No problem signing him. But we will have a major problem if he makes the team.
Mark Vader Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 we now have back up QB solidified. Maybe we'll draft a starter We'll draft a starter next year.
ROONDOGG55 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) That would be the stupidity that is Buffalo Bills. Sign a horrible QB and never draft one. Did the Saints draft Brees? Did the Packers draft Favre? Did the Raiders draft Gannon? Did the Rams or Cardinals draft Warner? Dude, you don't need to draft a QB for success. TJ Yates will only start for the Bills if there is an injury to TT. Plus this also doesn't eliminate the possibility the Bills draft a QB either. He's a vet that the Bills can fall back on unless one of the top QBs drop to the Bills in Rd 2-3, which is very likely to happen given the lack of talent. Edited April 10, 2017 by ROONDOGG55
