dbflaBill Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 The Bills had Rivers in today to work out and interview. They need to find a way to get this kid. Don't see him lasting much pass the 4th, and right now they dont have a 4th rounder. May take their 3rd round pick to get him.

I think Rivers is a top-50 guy right now.

I'd be surprised but he has the size strength and speed to go that early. Playing at that level hurts him a little but playing in the MVC helps a little.

Playing at that level hurts him a little but playing in the MVC helps a little. Rivers is the kind of kid that the combine can really help. Sure, he looks dominant on tape, but scouts want to know if that speed, fluidity, and athleticism merely pop because of who he's playing against. Then he comes to Indy and blows the doors off the testing--4th in 40, 4th in bench, 5th in vertical, 6th in broad, 3rd in 3-cone. If there were any doubt about whether or not he belongs among the top pass-rushing prospects in the class, it's gone now. My opinion only (obviously), but I reckon Buffalo needs to grab him at 44 if they want him. Edited April 4, 2017 by thebandit27
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 why am I picturing a cross between Derek Carr and Phillip Rivers?
YoloinOhio Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 why am I picturing a cross between Derek Carr and Phillip Rivers? Better than picturing Keith Rivers God he was bad
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Better than picturing Keith Rivers God he was bad Just thinking about Keith Rivers, I picture a large man moving in small motion at bad angles.
BADOLBILZ Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I see a lot of Michael McCrary when I watch him....... but just like McCrary that potential might not come to fruition until he's on his second team. Love pass rushers but not a fan of him at #44.
White Linen Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Good size OLB , at 44 maybe Looks like a DE to me
ALF Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 (edited) Looks like a DE to me He's tall enough and fast enough, 248lbs, to cover Gronk http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/derek-rivers?id=2558040 Edited April 5, 2017 by ALF
LEBills Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Rather have Jordan Willis but kid has good potential too. Love to see us looking at DLineman. We need to add more and more talent there with Kyle close to retirement, Dareus with suspensions the past few years and Shaq unproven.

Love pass rushers but not a fan of him at #44. The guy he reminded me of most was P. R. Kerrigan--tall and lean with excellent COD skills. Doubt he's as low/explosive out of the gate as Kerrigan though.
BarleyNY Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 He is projected to go in the 1st-2nd round.I'm seeing 2nd/3rd round on CBS. That's much more reasonable to me. I'm not even thinking of him at 44 though. He's not even a guy I'd be excited about in round 3 of this draft. Looks like a DE to me Yes. I see a 4-3 DE. Someone might try to convert him to a 3-4 OLB, but that's a huge projection. YSU DE to NFL 3-4 OLB is an incredible change and jump forward. He's tall enough and fast enough, 248lbs, to cover Gronk http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/derek-rivers?id=2558040 You're probably the only one on the planet wanting to see that. Well, you, Gronk, Brady, Belichick, Kraft, etc.

Doubt he's as low/explosive out of the gate as Kerrigan though. What you don't want to be is the team that spends an early pick on a small school pass rusher only to have them be invisible for 3 years before reach their potential elsewhere. McCrary was a late pick.......guys like Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett were late bloomers. You spend a round 1-3 pick on a pass rusher they need to be pushing for the starting job and producing by year 2 at least.

He's a defensive end in a 4-3 and he'd only be an OLB in a 3-4. I'm not saying he can't cover or can't convert to an OLB but in a 4-3 that just wouldn't make sense.
