PISSCHUNK Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Hey, the guy would start right away for you. We will obviously need him after JJ walks. Try and move Henry to another club between now and the draft for another pick to compensate for the pick given away for Shelton. A rookie in the 2nd probably wouldn't start. Late

Arizona won't trade him for just a draft pick.
JDG Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 With or without Henry included in the deal? Noway on Henry and a 2nd for an offensive lineman who can't even start for Arizona.... I'd probably go for a 2nd straight-up for Shelton, but I wouldn't like it.... JDG
BillsGuyInMalta Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 2. Arizona won't trade him for just a draft pick. 257819[/snapback] Uhhh...thats what they are asking for...the Bills were the only team to offer them a player for Shelton. I'd give up a 3rd rounder for Shelton, no problem...not a 2nd rounder though.

Do a 3rd in a heartbeat but then again, a 2nd probably won't produce where Shelton would. Hey, even if we get a 3rd for Henry, that's two picks in the first day. "Nice pick Cowa"

They'll trade their high picks for quantity. Don't be surprised to see them with up to 5 picks through rounds 3,4 & 5 and 10 or 11 picks overall. That has to be their goal. Waxing poetic on all the wonderful RBs he's seeing at the combine is his way of trying to pull one of those mid-round picks away from us. He knows that TH is a productive RB that fills an immediate need. He also knows this trade will free TD to sign PW, that's his leverage in trying to force his terms, but he also has to know that if PW signs the first offer sheet he gets, he'll lose that leverage. TD may tell him to throw in an '06! I don't believe this deal is dead. Green's just trying to get as many '05 & '06 picks as he can.

The Bills only have 6 picks, so it's doubtful they would give one up.
Guest BackInDaDay Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Thanks 'cincy'. I do believe having Edwards and Andersen is TD's ace in the hole. Interesting to see who blinks first.

The hand-wringing goes on apace here in Cincinnati and 30 other cities.
VABills Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I would be afraid to give up a second this year, but I would see if they would take a 2nd or even a 1st next year.

So does Denny.

Shelton #70 Position: T Years Pro: 6 Draft Date: 1999 Draft Team: Arizona Cardinals Born: 03/21/1976 Hometown: Monrovia, CA College: Eastern Michigan BIO Pro Career 2003: Started first 15 games at left tackle for Cardinals and was on field for all 921 offensive plays. 2002: Dubbed "The Last Man Standing" by teammates as only offensive linemen to withstand the season’s rash of injuries … only offensive line starter to answer the bell 16 times … battled through ankle injury that required postseason surgery to start every game and line up for 994 of 1,003 offensive snaps. 2001: Logged first full season as 16-game starter at left tackle as he and Clement each played all 955 offensive plays … key component of offensive line that allowed just 29 quarterback sacks, second fewest in franchise history in a 16-game season … the 1978 line allowed 22 sacks and featured three Pro Bowlers—center Tom Banks, tackle Dan Dierdorf, and guard Bob Young. 2000: Started final 13 games (14 overall) at left tackle in sophomore campaign … opened at left tackle at N.Y. Giants (Sept. 3) but suffered right-knee sprain on first play from scrimmage and did not return … inactive for next two games … returned to limited practice time Sept. 27 … back in starting lineup at San Francisco (Oct. 1) and played entire game. 1999: Missed rookie training camp during protracted contract negotiations … signed Sept. 25 two games into the regular season … roster exemption for two more games … appeared as reserve in first two NFL appearances—Oct. 10 vs. N.Y. Giants and Oct. 17 vs. Washington … first NFL start in third game Oct. 31 vs. New England … started seven consecutive games … ankle sprain in second half of seventh start Dec. 12 at Washington effectively ended his season … replaced by Matt Joyce … Friday inactive next two games, game-day inactive for season finale at Green Bay (Jan. 2). But, I wouldn't give Arizona anything but Henry for him. I think highly of TH's abilities, and this would be a good trade for both parties. This is all gamesmanship.

But I don't think Shelton is a long term answer at LT. To me, he's not a lot better than Trey Teague. Just because some are throwing godforsaken dollars at mediocre players is not a good reason for the Bills to start overpaying.

I think there are two or three tackles who will be selected in round two that have the potential to start this year, including Adam Terry, Khalif Barnes, and Wesley Britt. If Chris Colmer is sufficiently recovered from a shoulder condition (Parsonage-Turner Syndrome) he might start as a third rounder.

But could you explain Parsonage-Turner Syndrome and the ramifications on his ability to start this season. Thanks in advance.
