The McDermott Era begins - Voluntary OTAs

Recommended Posts

I have a kid i have missed her birthday 4 times, missed my wifes 5 times, missed our anniversary 4 times, christmas 3 times.

Unless you are in the armed forces and deployed overseas, you sound like a terrible father and husband. Probably a good employee though.

Hes the only one not there on a tesm that's desperately trying to undo losing ways and turn this franchise around. You dont think a millionaire athlete could have held his childs birthday party a day early in order to take part in team activities that has been arrainged for a while now? Also its 4 hours how long is the birthday party all day? He could have done both in the same day.

And some people don't have to post from work. Are those people that are using their employers time and resources terrible people?

you think he doesn't care about the team? Name one time from since he's been a Bill where he show that he didn't care while on the field. Did he ever mail it in? Why would that change now?

55 years?? Do you remember the 90s? You must have really hate those guys.

Oh and btw, Adrian Peterson, Tom Brady, Ray Lewis, and Peyton Manning all skipped voluntary workouts at some point.

NONE OF THEM ARE LEADERS!

As of 2015, Tom Brady had never skipped a voluntary workout.

Now, that doesn't mean that this is a big deal, but figured I'd point that out since, IMO, that's quote a statement.

Geez guys; it's voluntary.

He's missing stretching and working out.

Would I prefer he's there? Yes. Would the HC? I'm sure.

Is anyone--his teammates and coaches included--worried about the fact that he's not attending a voluntary workout where zero football-related activity takes place? Nobody except some of the folks on this board.

.........and possibly a few other teammates who are like......."why the f*ck am I here.....ME..... if the 2nd highest paid player at his position in the entire league doesn't see fit to show up? I got places I'd rather be too."

As you very well know Bandit, that is the real issue.........not that he's missing stretching exercises.

When teams win SB's the postgame interviews usually begin with the QB praising everyone for being there of every minute of the offseason etc.......that's believed by many within the game to be how you build a team and create the synergy and mental toughness needed to get thru a long season and come out on top.

I'm not trying to make it out to be more than it is but let's not pretend it has ANYTHING to do with the stretching exercises.

I don't disagree with any of that--but like you said, I don't think it's going to make the difference between playoffs and an early disappointment for this team.

McCoy is a terrific player and a player who will enter camp physically prepared. When Whaley traded for him he knew exactly who he was as a person. He has an individual approach to the game as opposed to a team oriented approach to the game. That's who he is and how he is. If you don't want that type of player with that attitude on your team then don't trade for him.

I would prefer that McCoy showed up for voluntary workouts but I am not disturbed by it. For me it is no big deal. However, for a player such as Dareus who has a history of not being mature and dedicated enough to prepare for the season in the offseason it would be an issue to be concerned with.

When you are trying to get employees to focus on being a team you don't want them thinking about "ME". That's what no-shows do in the workplace.

Do I think it will make a difference? No idea but probably not. He's a running back 9 years in the league so he shouldn't even need to see a playbook or any new technique work the way the defense, WR's, TE's and OL will.

If I were his boss, I would tell him that he should just stay home for the rest of OTA's........cuz, he's getting older and we want him refreshed and not getting hurt.......long season, ya' know?

Two birds....one stone. Shady off the table as a distraction .....and Shady thinking about being on the team on June 2nd.

That's generally how I feel as well.

Like I said: the effect is not lost on me. I simply think that the effect will have little-to-no impact on the team's performance.

Yeah probably.....the level of indignance amongst fans on the subject is telling of their fears though.

When Brady and Russell Wilson say that the offseason buy-in is the foundation of winning it's probably self-serving bullsh*t but I'd like to see what happens if the Bills all bought-in for once.

That's why I would eliminate McCoy from the equation by telling him to stay home and make the focus on the 100% of the rest of the team who did show up to the coaches very first ever OTA.

I do it nice-like though.

Maybe you can call into his radio show and ask him about it?

NFLPA would tend to disagree with you:

  • WORKOUTS ARE STRICTLY VOLUNTARY; Club Officials Cannot Indicate Workouts Are Anything Other Than Voluntary

Who are you to tell another poster what's right and wrong?

Millennial, right?

Do you see the irony in your post?

I'd like to see it as well...alas, 99% will have to do for now.

Wouldn't have been cool though if 61 of 61 players attended? Wouldn't have that been a strong statement of unity and commitment?

I'm confident that when Shady does show up, he'll be in shape. I'm looking forward to another good year from Shady. I don't think his lack of attendance is the end of the world. I just think that the proper way to welcome a new coach is with participation and engagement.

60 players found ways to manage their personal commitments and still make it do Day One of voluntary workouts. It would have been nice if Shady figured it out too.

Now if a player schedules a paid vacation for a Sunday during the season, that'd be an issue. But how many employers ask for volunteers to work overtime, and how many show up?? Its VOLUNTARY! Its not sending any other message than he wanted/needed thw day off. Its not a big deal people, until things become Mandatory Edited by BuffAlone

McCoy prepares himself for the season how he sees fit (and has been extremely durable at the RB position)

McCoy is also a tremendous teammate (has never been a selfish player or a locker room distraction, took his entire o-line to key west on vacation after the 2015 season, etc)

This is a non issue
