I'd say I'm happy for him but that would be a lie and I'm not very good at lying.

I seriously doubt he'd do that.  I read recently that they plan on playing Dominic Smith in the outfield a few times a week. Speculation was to make room for Alonso at first.

Interesting..that might be the reason why Smith lost some weight?

Just to show you how good this kid is as a prospect. Conforto made the jump from AA to the Majors. I see Alonso doing the same.

Exactly,kind sir. That's why I said I don't want to see him packaged for a #3/4.

I follow him on Facebook.  He is an absolute mess.  I almost feel guilty by being entertained by it, because he is clearly in need of serious help.

He just re-tweeted/posted on FB an article about the arrest.

I think it's high time to start blaming this line up of bats instead of the pitching staff. Talk about a skeleton crew!!!

Yup, offense is terrible but when you give your closer a one run lead in the 9th he needs to shut the door. I'm not a fan of familia and currently on the brink of being physically Ill.

We just lost a series to the worse team in the entire MLB and scored 4 runs yet still had a chance to take 2 out of 3.

Yup.  He floated meatball after meatball.  Feel bad for Jake.  Disgusting loss.  Disgusting series.

Hang tough, there is no doubt we severely miss the threat that Frazier offers and of course Ces is sorely missed.I wake up every morning hoping for a positive update on the both of them...but it isn't happening. I refuse to say the ship is sinking just yet.....

I remember you said you were concerned during TC time...I really hate to hear that he is still going downhill. It has to be but check time now....rehab or end up dead.

I despise Familia and can not wait for the day he is no longer a Met.

My son and I were just reminiscing about a Mets game we attended a few years back.  Mets/Dodgers at Citi.  Familia blew the lead in the 9th and I said, "let's go."  The place emptied out as soon as that bum blew the lead.  It was raining lightly and it wasn't worth getting wet for.    It was deGrom vs. Grienke (7/26/15).  Awesome pitchers duel and this ahole blows it.  BUT ... old ass Juan Uribe won it with a base hit in the bottom of the 10th ... which we missed.

Seems like he hasn't been the same since the World Series.

Since the World Series, he led the league in saves in 2016; missed a lot of last year and he's tied for 3rd most saves in the league, so far, this year.

He is, however, leading the league in blown saves so far this year.

I feel like we're being a little tough on him.  But last night was horrible.

I wasn't suggesting we cut and run with Familia, just my impression that since the WS he hasn't seemed as good as he was and it's something I'm keeping an eye on.

I'm not a stats guy, but I took a look after you pointed out his 2016 saves. Here's his save percentage the past few years (saves vs. save opportunities):

2015: 43/48 (90%)

2016: 51/56 (91%)

2017: 6/7 (86%)

2018: 13/17 (77%)

Looking just at blown saves you're right about 2016 but he's below par this year. In fairness I'd throw out this year as being a good indicator since it's a small sample, but it is cause for concern

Looking at some other stats (ERA/Avg/WHIP) indicates that he hasn't been as good:

2015: 1.85/.207/1.00

2016: 2.55/.220/1.21

2017: 4.38/.231/1.46

2018: 2.35/.212/1.13

It wouldn't surprise me if there are stats that show something different, that's always a pitfall of relying solely on stats IMO, but maybe what's happening is he's getting the saves but their more stressful.

I appreciate you taking the time to dig up these stats; very helpful!

I'd call 2017 a wash with the limited save opportunities.  So we're really just left with the World Series season, the season after that and this (very young) season.

My biggest concern is that, in this very young season, he's already blown 4 saves.  He might have a lot; but he's also blown a lot.

That's a little alarming if you ask me. The season is still young yet he's almost blown more saves this year than he has done in full seasons prior.

He was never meant to be the closer. He was the set up guy (which is his best spot in my opinion) and Mejia was the closer before getting popped for PEDs, and eventually being banned for life. So, in hindsight he has done a really good job.

Very nice win!!! Please let Callaway stick with the same line up tomorrow night,we need some consistency. This makes up for last night's "tooth pull".

Agreed.

I was a little take aback by how they kept saying that Wilmer gets tired playing every day.  I don't buy that.  I think he'd play 162 games/year if given the chance.

I wish Matz could pitch like this consistently.  Then we'd have something cooking!

Matz got killed for his last outing but it really came down to the HR he gave up with the pitcher on deck (which was bad). Tonight he got out of that bases loaded jam (which was fortunate, ball made it to the warning track). I'm more concerned that he stays healthy and so far so good this year.

But what do we do with Nimmo? A year ago I had written him off as a career minor leaguer but I'm becoming a convert. Problem is we already have too many left handed bats in the outfield. No way I'm giving up on Conforto but Nimmo's been the better player this year IMO.  And this team needs Bruce to be Bruce. I get that A-Gon is an obvious target but the thought of Bruce at first frightens me.

Regardless, nice bounce back road win after a tough home loss the night before.  It's been a good seven days after a rough stretch.

Let's Go Mets!
