That "delay" seemed to do Wheeler in. He was completely different after the 18-20 minute delay which is an unofficial delay. But, still this game was over once it was 1-0. This line-up had 3-4 players that should not be in the majors. I can't believe I'm going to say this but I can't wait for Plawecki and Frazier to return.

So far this season,we have just one HR from the "clean up" spot. 17 games in the next 18 days, this could get very ugly.

Jay Bruce needs to go a run. Can't will it to happen but as my Dad would've said: He's due.

Just maybe...he should take some more time off? Frazier's close cousin died,he didn't miss a inning. Bruce's wife gives birth to another child and he takes a week off.

Great point. The human side...I like it, could be a factor. I had no idea about Frazier. All too often we look at these players as faceless automatons.  The analytic geeks are probably good at the long term trends and probabilities but short term a managers judgement is equally important IMO.

But I still want more HR's from Bruce :)

Lagares out for the year with a toe injury.

Looks like the free fall continues.

He is officially injury-prone.  That sucks, because I love the guy.  I think he's got the best range in all of baseball.  Bummah!

The good:  Great win last night.  Nice bullpen work.  Nice clutch hitting.  Horrible - and I mean horrible - game management by the Diamondbacks.  They gave us a window and we took advantage.  I love to see that.

The bad:  Matz.  Two-out walks.  Two-strike homers.  Four runs in four innings.  Terrible.  I wish this kid could find some consistency.  He needs to stop getting behind hitters early in the count.

The ugly:  Reyes.  I'm not sure what's pissing me off more - hearing about David Wright trying to come back ... or watching Reyes **** the bed in clutch situations.

Side-note:  The challenge that we lost (called safe at 2nd, then upheld) - there is not one iota of a doubt that he was out.  The problem, as I see it, is that the umpire was in perfect position and he was looking right at the play.  Every call they overturn is admitting error.  When an ump is on top of a play like that and STILL !@#$s it up, if it's close, they're going to uphold it because they don't want to admit that he !@#$ed up a play that he was in perfect position to make the correct call.

Personally, I'd rather go back to having some bad calls (they are human and I actually enjoy the human aspect of umpiring, i.e. - different umps having different strike zones (as long as they are consistent in their differences), than to go through the review process that isn't going to be fairly executed 100% of the time.  I think replays should just be for foul balls and homeruns.  But it's a moot point, I know.

Anyway - Thor on the hill for the sweep this afternoon.  LET'S GO METS!

I agree about instant reply...but only up to a point. I just want them to be able to correct the obvious mistake. The rest just takes away from the game for me. 100% agree on balls and strikes and the human aspect of umping.

If anyone's curious what Endy Chavez is up to these days, he's playing with the Somerset Patriots.  An independent league where the skill level is on par with Double-A teams.  Was at a game the other night and it was a pleasant surprise to see him pop up.  That was still one of the best catches I ever saw.

Onto the present, last night's win was sweet.  Around Memorial Day is when you have in my opinion your first idea of how good/bad teams are.  I think most of us would have thought before opening day our record would be what it is right now .  It's just these last few weeks have been rough.  I saw after the 8th inning homer last night guys looking excited, hopefully the momentum will carry

Vargas needed that. His off speed stuff looked good tonight.

Are you loving the Jim Beam outdoor "booth" as much as I am? Reminds me of the days when Murphy and Kiner called the games at Shea...hearing the jets coming out of left/center field ,is a awesome sound.Beam me up for a few "high- balls".
