Not much grinds my gears more than a one-run loss; especially one in which we only score one run.

Nice effort by Peterson.

Vogelbach had a lead off double in the 8th that was squandered.

These are the kind of games that matter late in the season.

How about a one-run loss after being outscored 19-0 in the 1st two games of a series?

If you were able to watch it on TV I have a feeling your remote might have taken a beating 😟

Luckily, I was busy working downstairs, so I was only following on espn gamecast. Finally get some offense and couldn’t stop the bleeding.

Home sweet home tomorrow.

Looking at the forecast, rain isn't supposed to start until 3pm ET and will only last an hour.  This postponement seems a little premature.

A mercy killing for the home team?

Not Mets-related, but I thought it would be a good topic.  I've always respected the St. Louis Cardinals organization.  They've got this young manager (Oliver Marmol, 36) in year two and I feel like his behavior is very un-Cardinals-like.  Specifically, starting -- and perpetuating -- a beef with one of his players.

On Tuesday, Marmol called out Tyler O'Neill for getting thrown out at home.  He basically put O'Neill on blast to the media and questioned his effort in running the bases.

O'Neill defended himself shortly after.

Then O'Neill was out of the lineup yesterday.  Okay .. fine ... you're the manager.  Go ahead an bench a player if you feel like he half-assed it the day before.  I've got no problem with that at all.

But again ... they were both talking to the media about it on Wednesday.  O'Neill defending himself again and Marmol doubling down on questioning O'Neill's efforts.

That is not good and it's not what I'd expect from the Cardinals.  Just found it interesting.

I saw this yesterday and found it perplexing, as well. I agree that they have always had a well run organization and have more or less been a model franchise. That said, if they never win another game (unless it's against someone in the NL East other than the Mets), it will be too soon. I still harbor a lot of ill will towards those Whitey Herzog Cards of the 1980s. F them. Always.

Those teams were what made me love small ball!  We also had a local guy (Dave LaPoint) who had a nice MLB pitching career, including getting a ring with the Cardinals.

The way you feel about the Cards is the way I've always felt about the Braves.  Classy organization that I've always respected, but for obvious reasons, I f*cking hate them, LOL!

I need to get my mind off of this topic because my brain is unblocking the memory of Beltran (that motherf*cking bum) watching strike three to end the NLCS.  F*cking bum.

I'm out of town and didn't catch any of that.  Sounds like trouble-brewing - playing things out in the press rarely ends well. It wouldn't surprise if something had been brewing between the two for awhile.

And so it continues in Metsland...yet another injury. Maybe this one finally works out in our favor as Alvarez is on his way back to the bigs. Narvaez will be out 8-9 weeks. 'Wally Pipp' his arse, kid!*

*Not in the starting lineup today.

In the 'Good News Department', the shiny new behemoth of a scoreboard will be on display for today's home opener. Bring on the buntings, bring on the pageantry, bring on the victory. Squish the Fish! LGM!!

New year, new number for C/DH Francisco Alvarez...trades in last year's #50 'Sid Fernandez' for the #4 'Lenny Dykstra'.

Nice LaPoint reference. Where was he from, was it Latham, NY?

Glens Falls. Same city that produced Dave Palmer (Expos), Jimmer Fredette and Joe Girard III (basketball).

Francisco Alvarez gets his first start behind the dish this afternoon with Carrasco on the bump. Good luck, young man. Let's get it!

Two starts from Carrasco this year and I've seen all I need to see. He's a bum.

I've been thinking about what this rotation's 1-5 will-be/is and currently my thinking is:

1) Scherzer/Verlander - I don't think both will take the mound every 5 days

2) Senga - as bad as Carrasco has been in 2 starts, Senga has been dominant. Fingers crossed he keeps it up.

3) Peterson - he takes his lumps and I'd feel better if he were a 4/5

4) Carrasco - hasn't been better than a 3 as a Met. Disappointing start but probably OK as a 4

5) McGill - don't trust him but he gets a chance to establish himself

Did we finally reverse the curse of letting guys go before they break out? I'm thinking of Murph and Justin Turner vs. Nimmo. Too early to tell, but Nimmo looks possessed and his comments about not playing in the WBC cuz he's focused on the Mets resonate.

On the downside, I have no idea how this bullpen doesn't get burned out. It may not be deep enough if our $80 mill worth of starters can't pitch every 5 days - AND pitch into the 7th on occasion.

I was truly worried about losing Nimmo after last season. I know there were several teams after him and I thought the Mets might not value his worth. I know there were plenty of Met fans who undervalued him, as well. He has come a long way since I first saw him play here in Richmond when he was with Binghamton. He has become a legit and really good CFer who is the catalyst of the team. I love watching him at the plate. He has great discipline and goes up there with a plan every time. And he's become a decent base stealer, too (some credit has to go to the bigger bags and new rules, IMO). He's just a true professional with an infectious attitude. They would have regretted letting him get away. Oh, and just another day at the office Friday night against the Giants...2-4 with a sac bunt and a run scored.

I agree on the bullpen. This team was supposed to be built on its starting pitching but between the injuries to the top of the rotation, Scherzer's bs suspension (don't get me started), and what's left of the cobbled together staff only going about 5 or barely 5+ innings almost every night, it is a miracle that the pen has not imploded. To their credit, they have been brilliant. It's scary to think about them with Diaz in there as the stopper. And speaking of brilliant, Joey Lucchesi just threw a much needed, 7 inning, shutout gem on Friday night to give the bullpen a sweet reprieve. What a great return for him as it was for Tommy Hunter who pitched a scoreless 9th. Kudos, gents. The Metropolitans are 7-1 so far on this 10 game road trip. Getting either of the last two this weekend would be gravy. I was hoping for 6-4 and they've already exceeded that with Washington on tap for the next homestand.

Luckily, the bats have come alive at the right time, too. There are no words for Pete Alonso. He is not a polar bear...he is a BEAST! HR #10 on the year to dead center (2-run shot)...4 RBI (another 2-run single)...leading the majors in HRs...and he just set the Met record for most HRs ever before the end of April...and there are still 8 scheduled games left in the month. He's no longer just a power hitter...he's become a complete, all-around batter/player. It's great to witness it as it's unfolding. The front office should have already locked him into an extension. 'Uncle Steve' will be digging deeper than anticipated to keep him in the fold.

Keep it going! LGM!!

I agree with all of this, fellas.

Nice deep start last night in a shutout, though.

We need Cookie to turn things around.

The 10-game suspension levied on Max is complete and utter bullsh*t.

Good west coast stand so far. Gotta keep it going!!

LFGM!
