Buffalo716 Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 This is a fun light-hearted thread to discuss the best Generals in world history. This is fascinating because warfare has changed so much throughout the years so there are lots of different answers Who would be your top 5 Generals based on leadership, valiance in battle, and battlefield tactics? ( I only used 1 Roman) 1) Alexander the Great 2) Hannibal Barca 3) Julius Caesar 4) Napoleon Bonaparte 5) George Patton I'm sure I can be persuaded to change some because there are so many top flight Generals I tried chosing 1 American only as well Caesar over Scipio Africanus was tough

B-Man Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 If we are only going with one American (though I don't think any list should be limited) I would have to substitute Lee for Patton.

Idk what happened and idk how to merge. Thanks Hannibal. He went to Italy with no support or logistics and stayed for thirteen years waging war and defeating larger Roman armies in the most daring and sustained military campaign in history. Raised an army on in Spain and marched it over the alps and down into Italy winning some of the greatest battles in history. And no movie about this guy?? Boo!
boyst Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Tso Motors Electric I go in that order. If we are only going with one American (though I don't think any list should be limited) I would have to substitute Lee for Patton. i would agree with that. lee gets no credit because he fought for the better side
boyst Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 you can delete your own threads by going to the bottom where quote and multiquote then report appear. down there you'll see topic moderation. one involves delete the thread.
Trump_is_Mentally_fit Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 If we are only going with one American (though I don't think any list should be limited) I would have to substitute Lee for Patton. Patton doesn't belong on the list at all. Lee, yes, great general
grinreaper Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Rename this one: Best Genitals of All Time Well, I used to be 3rdnlng.
/dev/null Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Patton doesn't belong on the list at all. Lee, yes, great general Patton was a great battlefield general but was not a good war general Washington on the other hand was a poor battlefield general but an excellent war general Lee would presents an interesting theoretical dilemma. what if Lee had comparable resources and financial backing as his Union counterparts?
DC Tom Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Patton? He wasn't even one of the top 5 generals in World War 2. Subotai Alexander of Macedon Timur Lenk Napoleon Thomas Johnathon Jackson.
Buffalo716 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 No Rommel? 5 is so hard like I said If I went more modern The "Desert Fox" was a tremendous tank commander I let the Nazis off lol
DC Tom Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 No Rommel? Overrated. Great tactical and operational commander, but in command of more than a division he was out of his element.
