lau_chivo Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 (edited) How is howard faster? Reports range from 4.49 via ESPN to 4.51 and 4.53. Either way howard ran similar not better, so in essence he's not faster. Why wouldn't you want Engram over Howard? Engram had a better 40 Moreover, are we really basing a draft pick on straight line speed? Are you serious? Engram is projected a late 2nd, 3rd round pick. He's 6'3 235 not 6'6 250 and he doesn't have the tools of Howard. Howard has all the tools at a Superior size. It's not just straight speed. Although Engram was faster in the 40, he was slower than Howard in the 3 cones, the 20, and the 60. Howard had the fastest TE times in all those cats. At 6'6 250. Don't underestimate his size. Again I ask, are you serious? You're comparing apples and oranges. Read: http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/evan-engram-te-ole-miss-2017-nfl-draft-scouting-report-012417 Compared to MW and Engram, I rather have MW. I like OJ because he's big and as fast as receivers, lining up against safeties and linebackers which will make him truly elite. Don't get me wrong, if we go a different route in the 1st round (I rather the Bills trade down and get Sidney Jones, now that he's hurt), I wouldn't mind the Bills getting him in the 3rd. Reks Ryan Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Evans ran a great 40. https://www.google.com/amp/www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2014-nfl-combine-texas-am-wr-mike-evans-runs-blazing-40/amp/ Thank you for keeping him honest. Hopefully an example.
purple haze Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Will likely neither help or hurt his stock. About what I would expect a big possession receiver to run. Michael Irvin was a possession receiver too. 4.5 guy. Williams will have to learn to run crisper routes, but he could be wind up being very good. I like Davis for because of his explosiveness, but I wouldn't be upset with Williams. IF they take a WR. Boldin is an exception to the rule. Running a 4.6 or slower for a WR is a huge red flag and requires more research for the team. Jerry Rice famously ran in the 4.6s too. Game speed and route running ability are more important.

For starters I was being sarcastic about how much stock people put into 40 times. Secondly, Engram didn't post a 60 yard shuttle and his 20 yard was a shade under Howard. The three cone drill was seven hundredths difference. Not a huge difference. Yet with all these super duper superior skills Engram out produced him ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD. You wanna put stock into someones speed and workout numbers and not their play on the field. Don't realize TBD are huge Mike Mumula fans.
