If Chad Kelly DIDN'T have any character issues, would he be considered as the best quarterback in the draft??

The better question is probably: If he WASN'T Jimbo's nephew, would he warrant a fraction of this heat on TSW?

Posted

1) he threw a temper tantrum at a major unversity during a spring game which he included arguing with coaches and throwing balls on the field like a spoiled little brat.

2) he then threaten to shoot up a bar with an AK? How would a non-Kelly been dealt with in that situation? People have been treated a lot worse by the police for a lot less.

3) he has been physically removed from several other bars that haven't gotten reported.

4) he gets put on blast by a pornwhore. More stupid decision making.

5) he tried to fight high school because of a football hit.

6) he is on Snapchat with weed present while he is rehabbing and trying to get drafted.

Have you ever seen a successful NFL qb with that many dumb decisions?

I think that you touched on it here C. Biscuit. I work in commercial insurance and when we are trying to get quotes on large auto fleets they are looking at 2 things loss frequency and loss severity. I wouldn't say, on the surface, that any of Chad's issues stand out. The consistent pattern though is extreme. That is often worse. Guys make a terrible decision, see Ray Rice and Donte Stallworth. Other guys have a habit of bad decisions, see Junior Galette, Titus Young, etc... the number of bad decisions by Chad Kelly is quite alarming (especially with the microscope on him).

No, he would be just like every other late round prospect with off the field issues that no one talks about. He would be Ishmael Zamora.

Well, I'm sure they're currently losing their minds on the message board for whatever juco Zamora's uncle played ball at. :)

The Sabres once drafted Keith Gretzky. Never heard of him? That should tell you something.

that means nothing.

the Matthews family has plenty of great NFL players but not all.

Also does Christian McCaffrey have no chance because his father played in the NFL?

Every person stands on there on merits.

Weather Chad makes it or not has nothing to do with Jim but having the family genetics is big plus that many don't have.

Maybe a nice quiet place like New Orleans where he'll be far away from any temptations that could lead to trouble for him.

LOL, Or Las Vegas. "Sin City" is just an unfair, stereotypical exaggeration.

Cocky, conceited, swagger dripping from him,

Doesn't that sound at all familiar to you?

Chad Kelly is still a kid with allot of growing up to do in my humble opinion,

just like Cam when he got caught red handed with a stolen lab top.

Wow. That's a horrible parallel to draw. One was the top pick, Heisman winner and National champion....the other was kicked out of a top program and was average at best.

Above all else that is my biggest concern. It isn't about Jim as much as Bills fans. We still have people on this board that think EJ should have played more. Can you imagine the clamoring for Kelly regardless of what kind of player he is?!? There are people on this board that admittedly know very little about him that think that he is the answer. If his name was Smith, I would probably think that he would be a good late round, UDFA boom or bust prospect. The Kelly name for me is the EXACT reason that the Bills shouldn't go after him. They will not be able to move forward at that position with him on the roster. The 10% chance that he ends up a franchise guy isn't worth the 90% chance that Sal in Cheektowaga calls the John Murphy show 5 days a week talking about how Chad Kelly just needs a chance. Sal has never seen 1 snap of Chad Kelly.

I actually think that he is pretty talented but makes some poor decisions (just talking on the field). If you couple that with his injuries and off the field concerns he could be an absolute disaster in Buffalo. I think that he would be better off elsewhere.

Yeah, Kirby. There's a bit of a circus act element to this. If Chad's on the roster, he's going to attract attention whether it's from Jimbo, the fans, or whoever. He won't be a typical 3rd string QB. And I think that'll mostly be a bad thing.

Yeah, it blows my mind that anyone takes anything being said at draft time in the media as gospel. Polian doing a favor for the Kelly family. Just like he did for all of his sons friends when he got them jobs in the NFL. Just like Adam Schefter did when he talked up Doug Marrone because they share an agent.

Of course, Polian thought Curtis Painter and Jim Sgori were NFL qbs so maybe he is that bad at recognizing qb prospects.

You have managed to completely misunderstand the genius of the Painter pick. It allowed the Colts to perfectly tank for Luck. It was genius. You missed that.

I think this board needs to be simplified for you since you think your analysis of Kelly is better than Bill Polians.

I'm embarrassed for you.

In all honesty, I'm not sure why everyone is collectively clutching their pearls over Kelly's off-field issues. From what I understand, his big character issue is that he is a hothead. So what? None of his transgressions have been drug related. He has not been accused of alcoholism. To me, the biggest issues are the ACL replacements, which will keep him from being drafted. No team would draft a questionable rookie who can't attend training camp (except for the Bills, of course).

Sign him as a UDFA and stick him on the PS. If he can handle it, great. If not, sayonara.

Unless you count the picture of him rolling the blunt with his knee in the brace.

Kelly, a quarterback prospect for the 2017 NFL Draft, has off-field and injury concerns but has excellent talent. Matt Waldman and Sigmund Bloom examine Kelly in this RSP Film Room episode.

Ole Miss workout with Chad Kelly. He's going to get drafted 6th round by who knows. I hope its not us just because we are trying to bring back the glory days with name recognition.

He's not risky if you can get him Undrafted or 6th to 7th. Worth burning a pick if its this late. He's a punk and yeah Buffalo probably will get him in trouble but maybe just maybe there's light.
