flomoe
It is far more complicated than you make it sound. A GM has a certain budget allotted for every position or position group. If you tender Groy at that higher level, you have to pay him that extra amount of money. YOU may look at it and say "What's 800k?"...but again, when you have to manage the cap for an entire football team and sign as many guys as the Bills still need to sign....you can't just look at $800k as peanuts and act like it's no big deal to offer a player the extra cash. If GMing were as easy as you make it sound, there'd be a lot more quality GMs in the NFL than there are. You know what happens if you give a bunch of backups high tenders? You wind up overpaying for a bunch of backups. THIS I guess it's just easier for every ********* to come here and say Whaley sucks than it is to look at the logic behind every move. JM57
This would kind of suck. I thought Groy did pretty well at center, not great, and got more help from the guards than Wood did, but admirable. I thought they would keep him around for a few years, maybe use him as a cheap replacement for Incognito at LG or Wood at C after this season. Note they can cut Incognito after 2017, and save roughly $6.5 million ($7.575 cap hit or $1.15 million dead money). Cutting Wood today would save only about $3.25 million
eball
The only thing important about this is how it impacts comp picks.
vincec
Groy played well because teams didn't send pressure up the middle. It's maybe not that simple, but I agree that scheme played a big part in his success. The Bills ran a very OL friendly scheme the last two seasons. That helped him and Kouandjio look better than than they have previously in their careers.

He still had to run block and pass block, regardless of the scheme. Everyone is bummed about this, but on the other hand, congratulations to Groy, he has played well and he deserves a shot to start Don't be so sure they will keep Wood i have to admit, i kinda think this too. Ive been thinking that the bills have been waiting to see what kind of deal Groy would get, and then take the next couple of days to weight Groy vs Woods . Beef Jerky
800k more for a second round tender on this guy. It just baffles me that a NFL Gm would not use this to their advantage. Am I missing something? 800k more for a guy that provide solid depth on the interior offensive line. Same thing with Mike Gillislee this year and hogan last year. It makes no sense to not tender guys with that kind of value to a 2nd Rd pick for that price. If we can see it why can the front office not? 800k more wouldn't stop him from being signed... H2o
I think i would rather sign Groy and let Wood join the ranks of the FA's. Younger, less of an injury history, and I think he will continue to improve on top of already being a solid player.

Cripple Creek
I think they knew this was coming. They signed Ducasse to be a backup guard last week. They must be okay with Patrick Lewis as a backup center. Sucks to lose Groy, he filled in well last year. Then why not tender him higher? Is there a downside to doing that? simpleman
800k more wouldn't stop him from being signed... It is not about the 800K more we would have to pay, it is about the 2nd round pick they would have to give us in addition to whatever money they gave him. While I liked his performance, I would not give up a 2nd round draft pick for him.
Mr. WEO
Add him and cut wood Wood looks like he has about 2-3 years left. Especially with those injuries. No way Wood has that much time left.

That 2nd round pick would be very nice to have next year. Not sure how Eric Wood will recover. Dude is a tough as a box of rocks but this is what... his 3rd broken leg? gjv001
The Front Office of the Bills must be aware that, so far this off season, the teams roster has degenerated. Should they lose Groy, it might make improving the roster for 2017 an impossible task.
