Our interesting times...and unmitigated morons.

There exists morally motivated groups who's purpose is the extinction of the species; like PETA promoting an unhealthy vegan lifestyle or Planned Parenthood killing babies.

If evolution created morality to perpetuate the species, how did it morph to include ideas counter to that purpose?

edit: I have a theory; and it includes finding a way to kill off the idiots.

Evolution doesn't 'create' anything, at least not in the purposefully guided sense. It simply creates the conditions wherein certain traits or characteristics (genes, and more recently memes) are perpetuated/accentuated and others disappear. Morality as we know it is primarily a construct of such generic selection (and I mean selection in the most nonintrusive sense) over time being rewarded (again, read between the lines) for perpetuating specific replicable material.

What must always be remembered is that evolution is an ongoing process, so that not everything you see represents the pinnacle of generic selection: in fact, very few complex life forms outside sharks and similar prehistoric carryovers do. When you factor in the ever increasing evolutionary pressure a rapidly changing global socioeconomic society places on a species like humans' generic selection, I think it's fair to say that MUCH of our observable behavior today will tomorrow be different. Humanity is nowhere near a finished product and most likely never will be.

That's not what my DNS server said.

The End of the World…for Liberals.

Jeffrey Folks:

A powerful mental construct – the liberal myth of a progressive utopia brought about by surrender of the individual to state control – is at risk of being swept away by a great movement to free consciousness from the controlling ideas of the liberal past. As Shelby Steele wrote in a remarkable March 6 op-ed (“The Exhaustion of American Liberalism”),
we stand “at the end of something,” that something being the radical mindset that has dominated so much of American intellectual life since the 1960s.

“The jig is up.” Liberalism no longer possesses the moral authority to control our national politics.

Liberals are terrified of Trump because they know that their great myth, once the light of consciousness has been shined on it, will dissolve as quickly as a grain of salt in water. As Steele puts it, the “president rolls his eyes when he is called a racist, and we all – liberal and conservative alike – know that he isn’t one.” Elizabeth Warren’s Jeff Sessions rant was just that: a hysterical rant, and everyone knows it. “White guilt,” and all that goes with it, is now just tiresome noise. There is no reality to liberals’ mental myth of the enlightened state. Once it comes under awareness, it dissolves.

Dissolution happened remarkably quickly to the Soviet Union’s “enlightened state,” and America’s Progressive Left doesn’t enjoy nearly as much political and cultural power as the Politburo did.

They do, however, have a greater sense of entitlement. I’m afraid Folks may overestimate how quietly that may go.
