Not mandatory, but polite. If you're going to post something it takes 2 seconds to search and see if you're repeating someone else's post. This isn't a rip on the OP, who is new, it's just my opinion on the complaint

I do like when there is a link in a "repeat" and then one would die on its own.

I think if you want to start a thread, spending the 10 seconds to run a search. The search function is especially helpful if you don't spend your life on the board because it only takes a few seconds to find out.
