klos63 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Not just any player but the all-time leader in points should be on the shortlist. It's about honoring the past by maintaining healthy relationships with those who contributed to the franchise. that's ridiculous. Don't take the brown acid next time.
Wayne Arnold Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 that's ridiculous. Don't take the brown acid next time. Yes, relationships are ridiculous. !@#$ former players, most of whom sacrificed their livelihoods for this organization. They're all trash and should just shut up. Go Whaley!
klos63 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Not just any player but the all-time leader in points should be on the shortlist. It's about honoring the past by maintaining healthy relationships with those who contributed to the franchise. When OJ gets paroled this year, let's have him work with our RB's. J Williams could use some help holding onto the ball. Yes, relationships are ridiculous. !@#$ former players, most of whom sacrificed their livelihoods for this organization. They're all trash and should just shut up. Go Whaley! I think they enhanced their livelihoods by earning millions playing for this organization. I didn't say they are all trash.
nucci Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Get some good music on. Pink Floyd was always my go to. Excellent choice
cd1 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Not just any player but the all-time leader in points should be on the shortlist. It's about honoring the past by maintaining healthy relationships with those who contributed to the franchise. Because, GOD KNOWS, the Bills needed MORE coaches last year. Thats it! We did not have enough coaches...
Meathead Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 i can definitely see a point that says we want our paid coaches working with the players, not former players volunteering to come in and add yet another cook to the kitchen if mr christie is so good a coach then hire him in come capacity so that he is part of the total program. if not then thanks but we pass, which is what i think happened here
Drunken Pygmy Goat Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 When OJ gets paroled this year, let's have him work with our RB's. J Williams could use some help holding onto the ball. Show him the way, OJ.
ExiledInIllinois Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 The way I read it, I thought that what was said was that Carpenter was the one against outside help. It's written somewhat ambiguously. This is how I read it too.
Marv's Neighbor Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Even hear the expression "too many cooks?" How would you feel about an ex-employee offering to help you do your job? Too many cooks = two many Ryans.
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 maybe the message could have been delivered without alienating him, but what was he going to do- Tell him how to avoid getting dropped by the bills at 31 so he can get dropped at 32 (like Christie did)?

Buffalo86 Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Christie: You see Carp, you have to kick the ball really hard. I mean really put your leg into it. Carpenter: OK, thanks for stopping by. Christie: Wait, I just- Carpenter jogs away.
PlayoffsPlease Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Steve Christie has 100% more credibility with me as a fan, than the entire Bills front office.

What a Tuel Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 (edited) refusing help wouldn't make him a jerk. I don't understand why people don't understand this. Carpenter is an experienced veteran who has kicked almost 10 years. Why do we think Carpenter would a) think he needs someone like Christie's help, and b) what would Carpenter believe Christie would tell him that he doesn't already know. On top of all that, we assume Whaley is a roster nazi or something solely because we don't know the full story. Its confirmation bias at its best - "I never liked that Whaley guy, so he must've been like Christie, we can handle our own business." Edited March 8, 2017 by What a Tuel
klos63 Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Would have been really funny had Norwood offered help.
Johnny Hammersticks Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Would have been really funny had Norwood offered help. If Norwood did offer help and was graciously declined, I bet he wouldn't go flapping his lips about it to make the franchise look bad.
Buffalo Barbarian Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Saw this on twitter: http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2017/3/7/14841906/buffalo-bills-kicker-steve-christie-dan-carpenter-doug-whaley?utm_campaign=buffalorumblings&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter Steve Christie looked to help Carpenter with his kicking, but Whaley wouldn't let him. I'd like to wish the very best to Dan Carpenter and his future endeavors. It's not easy kicking in Buffalo! For the record, I did offer to help him, but was told by the GM that he wouldn't be receptive to outsiders. You would think after kicking there for nine years, l wouldn't be considered an outsider. But rather an experienced resource that was available to coach a fellow specialist in a time of need. Guys, I'm generally supportive of Doug, but stuff like this gives me pause. I think he's done a decent job drafting (when you think without Captain Hindsight with you, he did make choices that were understandable), picking up solid players like O Leary and J. Miller. But some of the stuff like this kind of concerns me. GMs should make efforts to improve their team, and treating your best kicker in team history as an "outsider" is really strange. I'll keep supporting the man, but stuff like this sticks with the fans. It will be interesting to see what this year's draft will do for his image. "he" who wouldn't be receptive to outside help, Whaley or Carpenter ? either way fire Whaley. You have coaches to deal with this stuff. you don't blow off a former great's advice especially when it's specific to your situation. Obviously he should have listened.
Turk71 Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 The Bills issued a statement that Whaley thanked Christie for his offer but thought it was best for Carp to keep working with his coach. Just to clarify who Christie was referring to. http://buffalonews.com/2017/03/07/christie-claims-whaley-rebuffed-offer-help-bills-kickers/
Pbomb Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 People still care about this, guess it is a great opportunity to push the fire whaley agenda and lead the ongoing crusade against him. Get over it he is here til next year atleast
