Thurman#1 Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 All good points. A trade would be tough because it accelerates the cap hit..its just like cutting him with no post June 1st designation. The post June 1st cut saves $5 million in cap room. It is essentially a trade of Shady for however the Bills can use the $5 million in cap room. The cap room is more valuable than what the Bills would get in return for any trade. The post June 1st designation doesn't save $5 million in cap room. It saves $5 million in cap room this year while then spending the same $5 million in cap room next year.
Maury Ballstein Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 sans reneged contract, yes. Did you miss the whole season or just trolling ?
BADOLBILZ Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 I like 99 percent of your takes but you have your head so far up your ass on this one. Twisting and turning in the wind on this one for no reason. It's similar to the folks that suggest puff daddy should get moved. The contracts don't allow much room for flexibility here, the Bills are prone to having "Look we are still stupid moments, everyone look at us" but this one belongs in the aliens underwater thread. I don't know what you mean. The premise of the article where this talk began a couple weeks ago was that the Bills could save around $6M on their 2017 salary cap by cutting Lesean McCoy and designating him as a June 1 cut. Seems that you've bypassed that info.......but if not perhaps you can expand on what you mean by the highlighted?
FireChan Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 If we were truly planning on the "rebuild," trading McCoy now makes sense, no?
Maury Ballstein Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 If we were truly planning on the "rebuild," trading McCoy now makes sense, no? Sure does if you want 17 to be as unwatchable as 16.
FireChan Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Sure does if you want 17 to be as unwatchable as 16. A rebuild would imply short term pain for long term gain, yes.
boyst Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Did you miss the whole season or just trolling ? those 8 wins. woohoo! i'm not convinced a cheap rookie wouldn't have done much worse.
aristocrat Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 If we were truly planning on the "rebuild," trading McCoy now makes sense, no? not if we pick a qb in the draft this year. mccoy helps the rookie qb and really any qb here next year.
WotAGuy Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 those 8 wins. woohoo! i'm not convinced a cheap rookie wouldn't have done much worse. I'm with you - a cheap rookie would have done much worse than Shady.
boyst Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 I'm with you - a cheap rookie would have done much worse than Shady. would have or would not have?
JoeF Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 The post June 1st designation doesn't save $5 million in cap room. It saves $5 million in cap room this year while then spending the same $5 million in cap room next year. It saves $5 million in cap this year...that was my point. The Bills aren't nearly as up against the cap next year. You spread the impact. There is no way you get in value this year in a trade for Shady what $5 million in cap this year gets you.
WotAGuy Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 would have or would not have? Would have. I just stated it without your double negative.
aristocrat Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 It saves $5 million in cap this year...that was my point. The Bills aren't nearly as up against the cap next year. You spread the impact. There is no way you get in value this year in a trade for Shady what $5 million in cap this year gets you. so you keep him this year and cut him next year. 5 mil cap hit one year next year. run him to the ground this year.
Delete This Account Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Heard it here first. Shady will not be back. I have no clear cut proof or links, but I have heard whispers that McCoy will not be in Buffalo next year. Yes, next year, as in 2018, is quite believable. jw
John from Riverside Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 If we were truly planning on the "rebuild," trading McCoy now makes sense, no? if they really did make this move it would signal rebiuld to me......and anything goes for the rest of the positions
HansLanda Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Are we really at the point where we think a player is leaving or being cut because he thanked a city after a signing event? Go home internet, you're drunk.
Beef Jerky Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Wait people want him cut? Bunch of Chip Kelly's and we know what happened to him.
hondo in seattle Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Every team has a bunch of JAGs starting for them. What distinguishes the great teams from the also-rans is the numbers of standouts. Great teams have more. Shady is one of our few standouts. You don't get rid of players like that. We have too few standouts already.
Marty McFly Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 This thread proves once again that if you throw some wacky, crazy-a$$ stojan out there, you'll still manage to attract some folks who will actually wind up defending/supporting it! Right. I bet Shady is back next year.
