Trump and Russia

Recommended Posts

Each state has the authority to allocate their votes as they will, to recall electors; and electors aren't compelled to vote by the federal government, or by the people.

Hence the first of many straws the left was clutching was the silly notion that the electors would "come to their senses" and change the outcome. Wasn't that one fun? There's been so much hysteria since that one it seems like a million years ago.

The country goes a little left and then a little right of center every 2 or so terms. Learn to live with it.

We've taken big steps left and small steps right for a while now. (Which is how Socialism works in the west -one concession at at time.)

How else do you explain a lifelong Democrat being considered a far right candidate?

Make no mistake, liberals of today will find themselves called far right conservatives in the future. You don't believe Trans-Species is a thing? Bigot!

He's the executive. He executes. Specifically, he executes the laws and policies of the federal government. Those are defined by the people, indirectly as represented by Congress.

The President's job isn't supposed to be to represent my interests. It's supposed to be to do what he's told to by the people that DO represent my interests (save on the international stage, where he represents the interests of the country, not me.)

So what happens when the President decides that he can use his Pen and Phone to execute the will of HIS people instead of laws passed by Congress? Even go on a tour apologizing for things his country is doing?

I wouldn't worry about if it I were you. If we can survive the awkward embarrassment of a John Kerry/James Taylor song in France, we can survive Trump.

Who could forget the wonderful reassurance that gave to the French people who had just suffered a hideous terrorist attack?

I wish I had confidence in the president making sure steps were being taken to ensure another attack on our democracy won't be affective but this president and most of his supporters probably want to encourage it. Comey's testimony that the president could basically care less the Russians wanted to hack, interfere and or create doubt about our institutions spoke volumes about what is going on.

THOMAS LIFSON: A vast conspiracy of silence kept the ‘Russia collusion’ story alive.

American democracy has been corrupted, and if not cured, the disease will be fatal.
There is no other conclusion to be drawn when the public is deceived on the scale that was revealed (but ignored) by James Comey. The stunning truth is that the American political and media establishment allowed a phony story –
that they knew was phony
— to dominate our political discourse for months.
When James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee last week, he revealed that he had informed many important Congressional leaders that there was no investigation of President Trump and the Russians underway, even as MSNBC, CNN, The
New York Times
, and the
Washington Post
daily carried stories alluding to an imaginary investigation.

None of these informed leaders spoke out! They allowed a make-believe tale intended to harm the legitimacy and therefore political power of President Trump to dominate mindshare in the nation’s collective political conversation.

Worst. Political class. Ever.

And that includes our media, which in this century (at least) has gone from merely biased to openly partisan.

The veil has thinned. For the first time in a long time Americans can see the con that's being run on them. The Russian story covers up so many ills and ticks so many boxes for so many disparate groups that it's the perfect storm of collusion:

MSM: Keeps the ratings up and keeps them from doing any serious self reflection on their industry

DNC: Keeps the base mobilized and angry while allowing them to hide from the failure of the 2016 campaign

RNC: Keeps party stalwarts and Never Trumpers engaged and in the spotlight for 2020 if needed

MiC: Keeps the "new cold war" broiling, which they've been pushing for since 2011, and keeps the $$ flowing

Deep State/USIC: Prevents true change from happening within America's foreign policy by undercutting 45 before any policies can be deployed

Oligarchs: Keeps everyone divided and fighting about a non-existent threat to our Democratic Republic while we continue to slide into an oligarchy

The question is, what will we do about it? B word and moan and do nothing? Or will we organize and demand the restoration of our republic?

Be careful what you ask for.

He's a career politician. Republicans in Congress can work with him. They'll be able to pass things you probably wouldn't like.

They're going to pass them anyways. I deeply about Health Care and Trump's proposed budget slashing medicaid and other programs to give the rich tax breaks that help the poor proves he's your typical Republican in terms of policy.

Seeing our president just childly push his way to the front of the line at a NATO summit is just embarrassing. Starting a political twitter fight with a mayor who is dealing with a terrorist attack is just embarrassing. Character assassinations of Comey and now Mueller are just embarrassing. Republicans go on a rant about Obama's apology tour, but he never engaged in that childish behavior. Country before party has to go both ways even though Trump is a gift to democrats in '18 and '20, but I'd be relieved to see Mike Pence take over.

Are they? When are they going to start?

Yeah, the American Health Care Act passed the House barely even though the Rs hold a hefty majority. Even R Senators say it's DOA. Think Pence's would be any better? As far Donald's budget goes, it's DOA as well as are the great majority of presidential budgets. How's that wall funding coming along?

While the childly push and tweeting are embarrassing, I'd still take embarrassment and a do nothing Congress over the kind of stuff that Rs would work with Pence to pass.

Trump was a gift to D's in 2016 too IIRC.

Pence is VP because he was the only guy that would take the job.

Be careful what you ask for IMHO.

Under 60% isn't a healthy majority in the House, unless we are again just making up a definition after 3 seconds thought to make a point.

Oh, they'll start within the next year. It took the ACA over a year to get done and Dems had the super majority for about 5 months. They just sent the AHCA bill to the CBO so it may be coming quicker than you think. Meanwhile, all the Trump Russia nonsense continues to take the focus off of the important issues.

There's plenty of Trump sycophants that would of taken the VP's job (Gingrich, Huckabee, Giuliani, Christie) so I don't know where you're getting that claim from. Even my wonderful congress representative Chris Collins who worships Trump would of gladly taken the job. Pence was a smart pick to win over Conservatives.

And the chief reason for that? The actual process of debate in the senate. Hundreds of amendments put forth by the republicans were discussed, the process was respected. An entirely different environment than what exists today.
