Trump and Russia

Well now,

You Won’t Believe Who Employed The “Former Soviet Counterintelligence Official” In Trump Meeting

Yesterday, NBC News ran a breathless and, as it turned out, dishonest story about a “former Soviet counterintelligence official” who was also in the now-famous meeting with Donald Trump, Jr. and Natalia Veselnitskaya, the lawyer who was banned from entering the United States but to whom, for some reason, the Obama Justice Department granted a special permission just in time for the meeting with Trump, Jr.

Naturally, the same cadre of NeverTrumpers and anti-Trumpers were quick off the mark tying this guy, Rinat Akhmetshin, by inference, to the KGB/SVR/FSB and to the Trump campaign. Sometimes to read this stuff you’d think there was a law against using Google or maybe your brain.

There is a problem with this story. Rinat Akhmetshin works for/with Fusion GPS. Take this March 31 letter from Senator Charles Grassley to then-acting deputy attorney general Dana Boente–that’s right March 31:

{snip}

And that is how NBC lies by omission. Akhmetshin’s links to pro-Russia lobbying efforts and to Fusion GPS are well documented. Fusion GPS’s links to pro-Russia lobbying efforts and to the international woman of mystery, Natalia Veselnitskaya are also known. But the fact that two Fusion GPS operatives had a meeting with Trump, Jr., at a time when their employer/prime contractor/whatever was shopping the Trump dossier doesn’t even cause a tingle of curiosity.

Right now we have two of the attendees at this meeting, that would be both of the Russians, who either worked for or with Fusion GPS on a pro-Russia lobbying effort. In addition to the pro-Russia lobbying, Fusion GPS also produced the very pro-Russia and virtually 100% fictitious “Trump dossier.” At some point the people who are pushing every bullsh** story that comes out of the media should be asking why the same people doing opposition research on Trump were involved in setting up a bait-and-switch meeting with Donald Trump that was tailored to fit into the Hillary Clinton campaign’s narrative of Trump being under the influence of the Kremlin. By preponderance of evidence, who is actually working for Russia? But that would require work.

What's most worrisome for me, isn't these clandestine meetings with Russian douchebags..

It's the persistent denials on the part of team Trump that they ever took place!

What else are they trying to hide?

You're not running the floor in one of your cheesy casinos buddy! -DON'T. LIE.

If they had just told the truth to begin with, this might not even be news..

he offers no conversation to thhe links he posts on any part of the board. he will only ever call someone out for not believing in a populous opinion, etc. he ridicules anyone with original thought. he would get away with murder in political threads and others got punished, he was a big reason robs house and others got the ban. he's a clown.

His insistence on thread moderation to bring focus to his posts is annoying if not suspicious.

Krauthammer usually waits until after he's had a chance to consult with those close to the issues in DC before he weighs in, which is one of the reasons I can respect his viewpoints; they are usually well informed. When such a staunch conservative agrees with those on the left he usually dismisses, well, it can't be a good thing for Donnie Jr. and Co.

Curious to know how many members of the US media alleged "spy" Rinat Akhmetshin has "colluded" with over the years

DEtSKOYXcAE1-rI.jpg

Matt Taibbi Retweeted Michael Tracey

I was going to say this. Akhmetshin has long been a source for a lot of prominent Washington journalists.

Let’s find out their names. You know, in the interest of policing “collusion.”

So why isn't a republican controlled congress investigating and/or bringing charges against Lynch and Clinton? My guess is there's not much there there.

One of the themes above is not like the others. No matter how hard we try to make false equivalencies.

i appreciate what he does but it's always been done. this place was a lot difference before social media. back in the belinda days, oh my

there is a lot more there on that than there is russia/trump. but neither would be worthwhile for the doj to pursue.

Why? They were balls to the wall on the Clinton server for over a year so what changed? Seems now that they have Sessions in charge, it would be even MORE worthwhile to pursue. Seems the Lynch scandal would be low-hanging fruit for the DOJ as well, if there's so much more there than russia/trump as you assert.

As for Don Jr, did he lawyer up because there isn't anything there? His emails put him in legal jeopardy and the smart people around him immediately realized that. Like I said, when staunch conservatives like Krauthammer weigh in like he did in his weekly column yesterday, you can bet the ranks of like-minded conservatives is growing.

Because she's not running for office.

Anyone else not a public figure would already be in jail for her egregious mismanagement of federal records alone. People only cared when she was running for office. It's good to be part of the ruling class.

I consider that less evidence of guilt and more evidence of common sense. You'd have to be a total idiot not to retain a lawyer when you're the subject of a DOJ or Congressional investigation.

Actually, you'd apparently have to be well beyond a total idiot, given that the total idiots in charge right now had the sense to do so...

There was nothing illegal about him meeting with Russians or his emails. They lured him into having a meeting by claiming they had real evidence of Hillary wrongdoing when they didn't really have it. They really wanted to talk about sanctions and adoptions.

To be fair, you shouldn't ask until after we get to see the Trumps spend 11 hours answering all related questions before Congress.

What difference, at this point, does it make?

Not saying it is evidence of guilt. And I don't attribute his lawyering up to his common sense at all. That was the smart people in his circle, after a weekend of him and his dumber circle proffering lies and then learning that the NYT was going to publish the email chain, stepping in and taking control of the situation. I think he lacks the necessary common sense required in this situation.

Don Jr. made it quite clear what he was interested in talking about in his emails. That's what placed him in legal jeopardy.

No, the Russians wanted to talk about sanctions and adoption. Don Jr. wanted the goods on Hillary, which they didn't actually have as they promised. He is in no legal jeopardy for meeting with them or emailing them about evidence that they might have detrimental to Hillary. The media and hacks like Adam Schiff are pushing this story to people like you who are either purposely disingenuous or duped easily.

why? because low hanging fruit is never that worth it. yes, it'd be nice to punish her for her wrong doing but going back in the past to such an event is just a firebox that is not worth it.

the only reason trump/russia is a thing is because the !@#$ lost. if the !@#$ won than the story would be republicans going after lynch and clinton over the clinton foundation. the clinton foundation is over 9000 more damning than trump/russia or lynch & doj/freedom

Look, Benghazi was a Chinese, 3-alarm, Clusterf%^#.... Someone clearly underestimated that situation... From 5000 miles away, however, I could at least see how someone could be ignorant of certain facts, and perhaps need to do

damage control in advance of things they're unaware of... Most people don't know that During the G.W. Bush Administration, there were Approximately 13 attacks on U.S. Embassies and consular properties, accounting for 66 deaths

(3 American). NONE of which received the Attention of Benghazi... I'll concede that it was handled horrifically... However, at no point did Hillary invite these terrorists to attack that Embassy.. She was never in league with

them while they were perpetrating the attack... Team Trump's lies, and misleading answers give folks reason to wonder if the administration was compromised from it's inception.
