why does the DC calling the defense signal tank

Leslie Frazier is Dick Jauron 2.0. If you like play not to lose and defenses so simple the other QB is calling out your plays, let's do this.

Because in Jeff's world Leslie Frazier is the Tyrod Taylor of DC's

No. Tyrod Taylor is a bottom 5 starter. Leslie Frazier should not be calling plays for any team.

I don't know. Wishful thinking?

I'm sure the Bills staff would prefer Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady but they aren't exactly available. Of the QB options that are available, TT is your best.

Speaking of, I just grabbed tickets to see them in Boston! Reunion tour.

Whose wishful thinking? Not mine as I agree there isn't a visible upgrade at the moment. So why the reluctance by McD to offer a solid endorsement after all that film review and analysis by the staff? If they were sold, they'd be emphatic in their support for the player at the most important position in sports. I gotta believe they are either waiting for a renegotiation with TT or want to see what veterans become available. The Romo situation has the potential to create a ripple effect in that regard, for instance.

Why do you think that Lezlie Frazier is going to call his own defense and not McDermott's?

putting all pieces together, imo it seems like they have made a decision, but not making it official or announcing anything until they have to in case they get a great trade offer or a better alternative at QB becomes available before 3/11. Edited by YoloinOhio

Yep. I mean didn't it dawn on Jeff what kind of D we were getting when McD was hired? Took two months to form that opinion?

The play caller is critical. We don't know yet who is "creating the defense" but it looks like Frazier will be much more involved than people thought. You can have the most aggressive defense on paper but if Frazier is calling the plays he will be very conservative. He can't help himself.

I believe that's what I was getting at. I'd only quibble about a decision having been made. If they are waiting to see what shakes out, then a decision really hasn't been made at all. Only the decision to wait and see. I guess that's kind of a decision, but it's not any endorsement of TT, that's for sure.

Bottom line for me is, if they were blown away by all that film analysis, they'd be singing themselves hoarse in their praises at this point.

That (Leslie Frazier) defense has been maligned in recent years by critics who say it's out of date and too easy to solve, and the Vikings certainly heard those sentiments under Frazier in Minnesota; defensive end Brian Robison said in training camp the scheme had gotten so stale that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers could call out the Vikings' plays as they lined up.

The Vikings gave up the most points in the league last season, and though the Buccaneers seemed to have plenty of talent on defense, they've allowed an average of 34 points a game this year (also the highest in the league).

Probably because he doesn't have to. There's still 11 days to go. Why say something now, then have an opportunity fall in your lap?

i think the decision is to keep him vs cut him regardless of what is available to replace him. I.e. They would not be ok with Cardale, a rookie, or one of the already available options (Foles, Cutler, mccown, Kap, etc) as the starter. But they might be ok with a yet to be available option and they want to keep that door ajar until the deadline.

While I enjoyed listening to Rex, especially early in the process...a quick reminder that the most boring head coach in the league is also the best one (not that there is a correlation). So I hope he is working hard right now as his reputation would indicate, and that the roster decisions followed by the game plans and schemes speak for themselves.

I don't disagree. As I've said, they are waiting to see what shakes out.

The bigger point for me is, if they were blown away after nearly two months of comprehensive film review and analsysis by the staff, they would be emphatic in their endorsement of the most important player on the team. They'd put the most important question to bed, get behind their guy in a very supportive public way, and move on.

This staff just doesn't appear to be sold and that says a lot to me.

I'm would be very worried about that stuff if we had hired an offensive experience HC who would rely on his DC to plan and invent everything.

Given our HC is a defensive specialist, hard worker, hard thinker, I think there is little chance he is hands off of the defense.

I think Frazier will have the responsibility of executing McDermott's vision, and Frazier's experience as a DC and HC and communication will be his primary value, not what schemes he like to run against Aaron Rodgers in 2014.

Remember how Anthony Lynn did a better job calling Roman's plays than Roman? Play calling is important. It's not just scheme.

Yes, but your criticism of Frazier is that his scheme is out of date?

I can't see them cutting him without that yet to be available option becoming available.

Again, my bigger concern is the staff wasn't blown away and sold on TT after two months of comprehensive analysis.

I'd be more concerned if they were blown away. We all watched the games
