jeffismagic Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 You guys need to give up the trade notion. That's not happening. Paying Tyrod $5M more per season than he has shown he's worth may be unappealing but McDermott is likely toast in 2 seasons if Taylor leaves. That money is trivial in the context of the VERY expensive process of changing coach, GM, schemes and players to fit the new schemes. Going to be hard to get a veteran team with a history of quitting to change their stripes and be all-in with the organization intentionally going with Cardale or a rookie. Maybe it's time to get rid of these great veterans that don't give 100% effort. I'm fine with that. And Rex got the boot because his defense didn't perform. If Rex had just missed the playoffs but it was the offense not getting it done he would still be here. I think McDermott gets 3 years to show something. First 2 years to find a QB and he gets till next year to build the D.
jeffismagic Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Like finding a QB is that easy. Why don't they find a QB WHILE KEEPING a decent one in Tyrod? You will have to ask the Bills. But Whaley already said he is not looking to pay a bridge QB 30 million. If the Bills keep Tyrod they will not be drafting a QB high as he is now "the guy".

If mcdermott has two bad seasons, i can't see him lasting.

If the Bills keep Tyrod they will not be drafting a QB high as he is now "the guy". That wouldn't make him "the guy".......that's just the cost of scoring TD's. If mcdermott has two bad seasons, i can't see him lasting. Agreed.......the Taylor decision is probably the biggest decision of his career. If he instead tries and fails badly with a young QB........which is a high likelihood if he goes that direction.......his HC career will be over for good quickly because he was a run-o-the mill candidate to begin with. Poor man's Steve Spagnuolo. When you are that guy you gotta' get off to a good start.
Tipster19 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 You guys need to give up the trade notion. That's not happening. All I said was if, not saying that they will. I was only going through the complete progression of solving the QB situation. What I expect is that if TT won't restructure then he'll be replaced with a bridge QB until they figure out a long term solution.
ALF Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Does McD want to keep Taylor or Gilmore , while Brady is still playing? #10 pick for solid player , QB in 2nd rd or later , and go with cheaper FA QB , expensive RT jmo

Poor man's Steve Spagnuolo. When you are that guy you gotta' get off to a good start. And if Talyor goes elsewhere and is successful there, then Whaley gets the boot too. The blame will fall on the bad decision at QB and his "bad" choice at head coach. Whaley's ticket to longevity with this organization is getting to the playoffs ASAP. Seems obvious to me the path they would take to get there.

But then what if this grand playoff push you want ends up being a 6-10 season next year? Then Whaley is gone EVEN FASTER than if he is honest about the roster and tries to get a real QB.

I don't think 6-10 would be bad enough. A Browns like season 1-15 or 2-14 or 3-13 perhaps. 4-12 would be borderline in my opinion. Only an embarrassingly horrible year would get him fired if he stuck with current personnel. Let's put it this way - Do the Bills have better odds of making the playoffs in either of the next 2 years by building on what they have right now or by going with a rookie QB and rebuilding the team around that rookie? I think their odds are far better by building on what they have right now. Whaley says he wants to win a Superbowl. And of course he does. But deep down he knows that this team has to at least make the playoffs very soon (2 years at most) or else his head will meet the chopping block. Getting into the playoffs buys him extra years.
zow2 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Apparently now the Jets are reportedly out on pursuing Jay Cutler and will instead focus on Tyrod Taylor or Mike Glennon. This article is interesting in that it states " Taylor will be cut by the Bills, while Glennon is a free agent." http://jetswire.usatoday.com/2017/02/09/report-jets-wont-pursue-jay-cutler-tyrod-taylor-mike-glennon-options/

Taylor to the jets is win win.
8-8 Forever? Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 The Bills aren't going anywhere next year. Let TT go. Give the ball to Clipboard Jones. and move up the draft board. Rebuild. even EJ. I mean, who cares at this point? The Rex hiring and firing blew the whole thing up again. I mean for gosh sakes, let's all go find something else to do

I think that Whaley was able to sell the Pegulas that he DID build a playoff team and that Rex blew it. But now the window closed and he gets a do over. Perfect. Taylor to the jets is win win. Mike Glennon is the ideal QB for a stealth tank! Keep Mills at RT and let Glennon work his poor man's Bledsoe from the Bills routine.
zow2 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Perfect. Taylor to the jets is win win. I disagree, but hey, whatever... I get the reasoning why some people want TT out of here. I'm just not one of them. Find a way to keep him at a deal that benefits the team and still keeps him happy.

Find a way to keep him at a deal that benefits the team and still keeps him happy. I think the distinction is a fine one. Many of the "anti-TT" people were TT fans just last year and the year before when he was making no money and we had the pieces on defense. But I don't like TT at this point because I don't want to give him a pay raise when I think the Bills playoff window has closed. NFL teams, because of the cap and draft, have cycles. I just see the Bills on the downswing and that signals a time to rebuild and gather more picks. Edited February 10, 2017 by jeffismagic
ALF Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 New coaching staff, new playbooks O and D would be difficult to make WC next season even with Taylor.
BuffaloRebound Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Call Taylor's bluff. Offer him 2 years $25m. Makes no sense for other teams to be leaking their interest in him other than his agent suckering Bills into exercising option. Nobody's giving him more money than that. Osweilers contract already a punchline in NFL circles, teams aren't making that mistake on Taylor. If he wants to play somewhere else for the same money, roll the dice on another bridge QB.
papazoid Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 bills with TT 10-6 wild card bills without TT 4-12
jeffismagic Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 bills with TT 10-6 wild card bills without TT 4-12 Taylor has averaged 7.5 wins on a low contract. You give him 30 million and there is even less talent around him. Unless you believe TT is about to improve drastically. No evidence for that.
jeffismagic Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 With two ****ty defenses. Who gives a **** about the money. Is it your money? Pegula can pony up an extra few mill for a decent QB who does a lot of good things while we don't have anyone better and likely won't for the next couple seasons. I don't care about money paid out. I care about money paid that counts against the cap. I don't see the defense getting to top 5 with no room in the cap and another change in scheme.
