Tom Brady has also been clocked throwing a football and it was not 49 MPH.

His arm strength is also widely accepted to have improved in the pros than what it was coming out.

Yes, truly remarkable. My cousin went to Michigan and said Brady has to be doing HGH. No other explanation. If the Bills have a plan to do that then sure, let's get him in here.

Yeah. 4 years riding the pine meant Tyrod should've improved tremendously, but a decade in the NFL couldn't have possibly changed Brady's ball velocity.

That's apples and oranges comparison.

You think that the access to facilities and specialists that going to the pros brings is completely different than the access to quality coaching?

How many QB's became much better after being in the NFL for 7 years? Gannon? It's like a one in 1,000 thing.

Gannon, Warner, Alex Smith. Regardless who said anything about 'much better'? Nearly every QB that gets access to NFL coaching and training facilities improves from their college version. That includes ball velocity as well as on field ability.

Funny (PEDs) how that (PEDs) worked out.

No one is forcing you to read the thread. Strange reaction to wish ill on a fella that way.

If DW passes on a franchise qb, all the fans who want to fill positional holes on D or WR now instead will be calling for his head later.

Half of them will be telling you how they wanted Mahomes or Trubisky, etc.

People think every draft is full of franchise QBs. People had the same discussions about Geno Smith, Nassib and Barkley in 2013. This is widely considered a poor QB class so curb your enthusiasm.

I don't think it's being considered a poor class. It's widely considered to have NFL Starter talent, but the players aren't ready to start day 1. Due to those circumstances it's more likely that QBs don't go in the top 10 and that teams with entrenched, but aging, starters pick one up unexpectedly (Chargers, Giants, Cardinals, Steelers, Saints, etc.)

I'll put money on this being a better class than 2013. 4 years in I think one of these will be an established franchise guy and at least 1 other will still be starting in the league.

What was 2016 and 2014 considered?

I was told about Watson's throwing issues before I even saw the combine numbers. My source told me he throws a fluttering ball. That is a huge red flag and the combine MPH only confirms what I was told.

Paul Hamilton of WGR watched Mahomes play a game on Youtube last night and now doesn't want to draft him.

Trade up!!!!

There is more evaluating a QB than that. Peyton Manning also threw a flutter ball. The one thing that consistently QBs improve the first few years in the league is arm strength (e.g Carr, Smith, Brady, Eli, Bridgewater, Dalton). Watson can put more strength on his frame so I have no doubt that number will improve. I think his floor is Alex Smith.

The thing about Manning is that he could put the ball anywhere he wanted with deadly accuracy (at least before he turned into noodle arm). Not sure if Watson can do that all the time.

Carr had the best arm of his draft class. Eli and Peyton had good NFL arms. Peyton Manning did not throw a flutter ball until his a zillion surgeries and then he was out of the league.

Peyton never had a huge arm. It got weaker, sure. But he never had a cannon. I think arm strength is something people get enamoured with. That is fine. I'm not arguing you don't need some kind of arm.... but to me it is a fair way down the list of what I look for.

You don't need a cannon. But if you don't have an NFL starter caliber arm you will be sitting on the bench. There are NFL throws where if the ball doesn't get delivered with velocity (such as a 15-20 yard out) NFL corners will jump the route.

Arm strength needs to be at an NFL level. And of course there are other things to measure. Release time is also critical. A slow release time would make a QB no draft for me.

Of course and I am 100% confident Watson's arm will get the ball there.

I like Mahomes... I'd even say go ahead and take him at 10 if you like him. But don't give the kid a hall of fame bust and act like there aren't reasons he's not the #1 overall pick. Cuz there are.

Everyone says his arms so hot his footwork doesn't matter... and he'll learn to take snaps under center... and learn to call plays in the huddle....

All of these things matter, and thats why he's not going #1 overall.

I have been arguing that having Taylor on a team friendly contract gives one the opportunity to sit a qb and let him develop. Any qb taken at #10 or later will need time. I have not noticed a lot of posters thinking otherwise. There is one fella who is indeed promising the Hall of Fame. Most other posters are more rational in their evaluations. For the record, I like Mahomes, Trubisky, and Watson. I just believe we need to address qb now. I think it's a pretty good draft class, not a bad one or "meh" as many seem to believe. None of them are can't miss. It's still a risk, but good teams evaluate well and minimize risk. That hasn't been us, of course, but it isn't metaphysically impossible for the Bills to draft a good qb.

All this assumes Taylor is not a franchise qb. Those who believe he is will naturally dissent.

Tech QB Mahomes stays busy and other visit notes … We note in an earlier post that Texas Tech Patrick Mahomes, who has visits or workouts planned with 18 teams prior to the draft, may be the ‘most interesting man’ in the draft. In fact, the legend of Mahomes, or at least his itinerary, continues to grow. The latest team to add their name to Mahomes’ dance card in Buffalo which will reportedly work him out later this week. The Bills, who have the 10th pick this year, did extend incumbent starter Tyrod Taylor earlier this year, but did little to hide the fact that they really wanted to upgrade the position prior to the extension. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh has also reportedly scheduled a work out with Mahomes. Like a lot of teams around the league, the Steelers may have to start to think about finding a future replacement for aging veteran Ben Roethlisberger who reportedly considered retiring this off-season. However, the Steelers, who have the 30th pick this year, may not have much a shot at Mahomes as there is a growing buzz around the league that he is closing in on a possible top ten grade.
