bbb
If you watched the game & the way it u nfolded you really can't blame the students for rushing the court. It was back & forth all afternoon, & the kid for Bonnie couldn't miss in the second half & hit a miracle 3 with 2 guys in his grill with time running out. I think there was .4 seconds left. I don't know, I think the refs could of used better discretion & cleared the court , gave them a warning & Bonnie wins. I guess it was the right call but tough way to lose. I had Bonnie + 1 on the backend of a 4 game round robin where if they would of won I would of won over a grand. That hurt. This is EXACTLY it! I was there, about 10 rows up at midcourt. You had to be there, or be watching it to know why the court got stormed. It was 80s weekend (which is why I was there), and being sold as here was 80s weekend two years ago, when we beat VCU, who were #15 or so at the time, on exactly the same scenario, and we were on espn all night, with the court storm. The place was sold out and at fever pitch. If we had won by say three had dribbled out the clock, this would never have happened. We were down 7 with 90 seconds or so left. That makes far more sense, though they weren't obvious with it before the ball was inbounded. I suspect that might be more damage control than anything. I hate that we continue to drive emotion from sports. It's the reason the thing is so compelling in the first place. And, this is EXACTLY right. Both coaches (Will Wade of VCU is pure class) agreed that the students 1st and the rest of the crowd 2nd is what gives the team energy, and makes a game at the RC an amazing experience. The poor ref got bumped by a student. What ah ahole he is. I've seen him ref some other games there. The cocky jerk. He made the game about him. It's only heresy, but I was told the two other refs said "the game is over" and you can see him making the call on the tape.
PromoTheRobot
There was time on the clock when the fans stormed the court. So the technical foul was the right call. I watched part of the game. They are well coached and play an entertaining brand of game. I wonder if Hurley has any regrets? Canisius is playing better than the prognosticators predicted. They are also a well coached team. They are not big so they rely on the three point shot. I would love to see St. Bonnie, Canisius, Niagra and UB elevate their programs and make their mark in the region. Tough challenge to live up to for this hockey and football town. Buffalo back in the 70s was a big college ball town, between Canisius, Niagara and Bona. With no NBA there ought to be some market for college games. UB gets 4K on a weekend game. Bona packs the Reilly Center. (5500) Canisius and Niagara play in high school gyms basically. Edited February 7, 2017 by PromoTheRobot

The Braves and Sabres changed that quite a bit in the 70s.....Mark Gaughan had a nice little "power take" or whatever they call it in the paper last week - about the value of going to a Big 4 game vs. a Sabres game. ExiledInIllinois
Aren't basketball players nicknamed: Cagers Why basketball, IMO has such strange unclassy traditions, like when a player is shooting a free throw. Bring back the cage: "The term "cagers" come from the early days of professional basketball. And I don't mean the late 1940s and 1950s NBA. I mean the old, old professional basketball, in the years following the invetion of basketball in the late 1890s up until the early- to mid-1920s. Some professional leagues during those days used cages, usually made of wire mesh 12 feet high, or of rope hanging from the rafters. The main reason for the cages was to keep home fans from interfering with game play; this was hardly achieved as some fans would stick out nails or needles or lighter cigarettes in between the wire mesh cage to hurt visitors. In towns in the Pennsylvania coal region, the fans were noted for heating nails with miner's lamps and tossing them high over the net at opposing foul shooters. Yes, they could do that back in the day. This was also deemed necessary since during those days, the rule giving an out-of-bounds ball to the first player to touch it was still in effect, and it would have been bad for business to have players wrestling in the laps of paying customers for possession of the ball. With the cages, bouncing an opponent off the cage was considered fair play, particularly if he had the ball. It was not uncommon for players to have rope burns and cuts all over their backs after games. Brutal."

plenzmd1
Had a question on this for someone who knows the rules much better than I for college hoops. Setting a pick is legal, i get that. Running into player setting pick is not a foul right? So why was that a foul...is it because the ball was not in play yet?
The Poojer
running into a stationary player is a charge on the offense, if the 'stationary' player is still moving it is a block on the defender Had a question on this for someone who knows the rules much better than I for college hoops. Miyagi-Do Karate
This was such a Billsy result. Couldn't you guys seeing this same scenario play out in a NE/Bills game? I can't believe the refs didn't just clear the court and let them play. It's inconceivable.

Have you ever seen that? Now usually the guy getting picked falls down, but in this case the guy setting the pick fell...you think thats why they called it? Paul, you can't just run through a pick -- you have to go around (as long as the player setting the pick is not moving, and doesn't raise his elbows). I think it was the right call.
