1billsfan Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 In random order. I've got nine, what am I missing here? San Diego drafting Ryan Leaf St. Louis drafting Lawrence Phillips Bills trading for Rob Johnson and paying him $25 million Green Bay drafting Tony Manderich Seattle drafting Rick Mirer Falcons trading for Jeff George Minnesota's trade for Hershal Walker Saints trading whole draft for Ricky Williams Miami trading down missing out on Randy Moss
BillsNYC Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Drafts are all gambles...I wouldn't put them in there.
Puhonix Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 In random order. I've got nine, what am I missing here? Miami trading down missing out on Randy Moss 255762 But how many other teams passed on Moss too? Don't think that one belongs on the list. I think Marinovich belongs on this list though.
Arkady Renko Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 St. Louis drafting Steven Phillips 255762 I assume you mean Lawrence Philips? It seems your list is weighted a little too heavily towards recent history.
Toledo Bill Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Buffalo, with the top pick in the draft... Tom Cousinueao (sp)
Alaska Darin Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 If you're putting drafts in there, 26 teams passed on Dan Marino (Darrell Green was the pick right after Marino - 2 HOFers at the end of the first round). 2 of them were justified (Buffalo and Denver).
Arkady Renko Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 There are just too many draft moves that look bad in hindsight to count, especially when you start saying this team shouldn't have passed on this or that guy.

1billsfan Posted February 28, 2005 Author Posted February 28, 2005 Drafts are all gambles...I wouldn't put them in there. 255768 I'm went with so-called sure things that went beyond bust. Guys like Marino and Montana slipping were flukey happenstances. I just wanted to get something going today because I'm sick of beating dead horse topics regarding our team.
1billsfan Posted February 28, 2005 Author Posted February 28, 2005 I assume you mean Lawrence Philips? It seems your list is weighted a little too heavily towards recent history. 255771 Yes sir, my bad. There wasn't much player movement before free agency, but I'm sure there were some flameouts before Tony Manderich.
RJsackedagain Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 St. Louis drafting Steven Phillips 255762 Cool, they must have taken him right before he became the GM for the Mets. If you want bad offseason moves how about: Seahawks signing of Nate Odomes Buffalo bringing in Reggie Rogers The Raiders signing Warren Sapp Miami trading a second round pick for AJ Feeley Bears trading for Rick Mirer
ganesh Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Bengals drafting Akili Smith. The guy had 1 good year in Oregon.
2003Contenders Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Actually the trade for Jeff George was not that bad for the Falcons. He took them to the playoffs his first year there. The problem came in the second year, when he and June Jones got into a shouting match on the sidelines... and Jones, with his feelings hurt, elected to bench George.
BRH Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Wasn't Aundray Bruce a #1 draft pick one year? How about the Colts taking Steve Emtman and Quentin Coryatt 1-2 at the top of a draft in the early '90s?

I just wanted to get something going today because I'm sick of beating dead horse topics regarding our team. 255800 Marv Levy wanted to draft Montana and the 'GM' overrode him!
BRH Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Let's not forget that Dan McGwire, David Klingler, Andre Ware, Kelly Stouffer, Todd Blackledge and Todd Marijuanovich were all first-round draft picks.
drnykterstein Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 what about miami trading two #1's for ricky williams only to have him retire after two years.
BillsNYC Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 What about trading ALL of your picks to get Ricki and him never reaching his full potential until he left.
