What a Tuel Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) The Browns have signed Collins to a 4 year extension already. The Pats will get the Browns 3rd round comp pick for him. The Browns have picks 1, 12, 33, 52 & 65 through the first three rounds. If they do offer anything for JG it won't include a first. Yeah, that was the point. The Browns were willing to part with a 4th (3rd cond) to the Patriots for a player they could have lost to free agency. Having #33 may stop them from having to give #12. Who was the last career backup QB who was traded for a 1st round pick? That's quite a loaded question. Garoppolo is a QB on his rookie contract, not a career backup. Patriots got #34 for Matt Cassel who got to show off the year Brady was injured, and Garoppolo got a similar opportunity this year. I could see #33 which is technically a 2nd round pick. Factor in that its the Browns and if I were the Pats, I'd aim for #12. Also for the record, I don't think Garoppolo is going to be a legitimate starting QB in the NFL over the next couple years, so no I don't think it's a good idea for the Browns.
