YoloinOhio Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000779847/article/lesean-mccoy-mcdermott-is-the-right-guy-for-the-job?campaign=Twitter_atn Great interview - link has video and article about what he said LeSean McCoy approves the Buffalo Bills' decision to hire Sean McDermott as their new head coach. Appearing on NFL Network's Good Morning Football, the star running back noted that he'd spent two years with McDermott in Philadelphia (where the coach was the defensive coordinator) in 2009, 2010. McCoy believes McDermott owns the right temperament and discipline to succeed as a head coach -- but made sure not to blast former Bills coach Rex Ryan.
87168 Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 his comments about McDermott make me excited to see a potential culture shift on the horizon.
elroy16 Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 He also talked about the talent level in Buffalo was better than he anticipated and how he thought, top to bottom, it was better than Philly. That was unsolicited by the way. He said people doubting him last year gave him extra motivation to work hard last off-season. I like Shady interviews, he's a straight shooter.
transient Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Then there was this, "You need 11 guys on the field to get the job done..." which I'm sure wasn't intended, but it's soooo true. The Ryan's went out of their way to prove that 10 guys just don't cut it.
Tsaikotic Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 kinda disheartening to keep hearing how the players didnt hold themselves accountable and coaching didnt either....were there actually players that didnt want to win or play?
eball Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 kinda disheartening to keep hearing how the players didnt hold themselves accountable and coaching didnt either....were there actually players that didnt want to win or play? Of course players "want" to win -- the difference is in how they prepare, and how they react to success/failure. Some players are self-motivated and don't need a coach hammering it home. Some need that extra push and "accountability" from an external source -- either coaching or their fellow teammates.

YoloinOhio Posted January 27, 2017 Author Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) kinda disheartening to keep hearing how the players didnt hold themselves accountable and coaching didnt either....were there actually players that didnt want to win or play?i think you always will have a mix of players, some are self-motivated and self-disciplined and don't "need" that much direction from the HC and staff, whereas others need more day-to-day direction, discipline and to be kept in line. Even if they all have the same goal. IMO the culture is created by the HC and if the HC is loose and un-focused, there are members of the team who will take on that attitude as well. Not to say that the HC doesn't want to win, but his day-to-day approach might not be conducive to getting over the 7 to 8 win hump. Edited January 27, 2017 by YoloinOhio

Unfortunately, everyone is not like Kyle Williams. Edited January 27, 2017 by elroy16

Who is self-motivated? Know exactly how to light a specific fire under each individual on a team.
H2o Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 The echoed sentiment time and time again was discipline and accountability. That's what I hope McDermott brings.

Know exactly how to light a specific fire under each individual on a team. Yep. And if you're a player who is not self-motivated and you see a coach who doesn't put in the extra time, or if there are no repercussions for failure, what do you think the result will be?
Deranged Rhino Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 No one's pointed out he said "escape goat"? This board is slipping...
tedstrong Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 "So LeSean, are you picking the Patriots to win?" LeSean: Screws up his face, "I could never take the Patriots. I'm from Buffalo! Let's not carried away, now!"
Kirby Jackson Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 No one's pointed out he said "escape goat"? This board is slipping... Irregardless, it was a great interview

Andrew Son Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 I think some of the accountability problem is a result of a lack of player leadership. The star players need to set an example and demand the same effort from all

Mark Vader Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 No one's pointed out he said "escape goat"? This board is slipping... The way he's been playing for us, I don't care if he says "escape lamb".
