Since when?

USCG has never been under DOD. They have been operationally chopped to the Navy under some circumstances (CG pulled some convoy escort duty of the Eastern Seaboard in WWII, and did some port security duty in Bahrain in 1990-1991). But organizationally they've historically been under Treasury or Commerce, and were moved to DHS on that department's formation.

On November 25, 2002, President George Bush signed the Homeland Security Act, which called for the largest reorganization in the U.S. government since the formation of the Department of Defense. The reorganization plan will bring together twenty-two agencies or parts of agencies from other departments such as Justice, Commerce, Health and Human Services, etc., under the control of the Department of Homeland Security.

You can build a wall.

Who's going to stop them from digging under it?

Who's going to stop them from using boats and or subs?

Who's going to stop them from mounting catapults to the wall to toss bales of pot over it?

He promised the Mexicans will pay for it not us Americans.

Who thought building a wall could be so complicated?

Funding for President Trump’s proposed border wall is poised to be a central issue in this fall’s showdown over government funding.

Unless Congress approves a new funding bill, the government will shut down on Oct. 1.

Trump is demanding funds for the wall that was the centerpiece of his successful presidential campaign, but Democrats have warned they will vote en masse against any legislation that includes money for the wall.

“I don’t see Democrats going along with anything that funds the wall,” said one senior House Democratic aide.

That’s a huge problem, since Republicans will need Democratic votes to pass a bill to fund the government. In the Senate, Democrats can block legislation unless the GOP can get eight members of the minority to vote to end a filibuster.

While Trump and members of his administration have suggested that they might favor a “good shutdown,” congressional Republicans worry that it will fuel the notion that their party, which controls both chambers of Congress and the White House, is unable to govern.

WASHINGTON ― President Donald Trump is threatening a government shutdown if congressional Democrats do not give in to his demands to fund a border wall in a spending bill next month, but Democrats do not appear to be backing down.

If we have to close down our government, were building that wall, Trump said during a Tuesday rally in Phoenix, Arizona, suggesting that he would allow a shutdown come October if a U.S.-Mexico wall was not funded.

Democratic leaders responded swiftly Wednesday morning making it clear that the inclusion of wall funding in a bill to keep the government open would be enough for them to vote no.

If the President pursues this path, against the wishes of both Republicans and Democrats, as well as the majority of the American people, he will be heading towards a government shutdown which nobody will like and which wont accomplish anything, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in a statement.

I agree that you need to secure the border but do you really think a wall will change anything? Look at the Israelis and the issues they've had.

No- needs get met, and there is a need for immigrant labor, and also demand for illicit drugs. A physical barrier feels good because you can see something that appears to address the problem, but truth is the problem is solved through well thought out policy, tweaking those policies as needed, and by beefing up forces to enforce those laws.

A wall is the simple the F35 of the immigration issue, imo.

Would minefields be more effective?

How much funding for a wall in the next fiscal year does Trump want ?

The following was the last I read . $2.6B seems modest enough
