GunnerBill Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I got asked by a non-Bills supporting NFL loving friend last week where I thought Tyrod ranked in the NFL Quarterbacks. I though long and hard about the way I would categorise and rank them taking into account play in 2016, overall body of work and potential. Here is what I came up with..... Elite: 1. Aaron Rodgers 2. Tom Brady 3. Drew Brees 4. Ben Rothlisberger Definite Franchise Quarterbacks: 5. Matt Ryan 6. Philip Rivers 7. Russell Wilson 8. Andrew Luck 9. Matthew Stafford 10. Eli Manning 11. Joe Flacco 12. Cam Newton Next Gen: 13. Derek Carr 14. Marcus Mariota 15. Jameis Winston 16. Dak Prescott The Game Managers: 17. Alex Smith 18. Andy Dalton 19. Kirk Cousins 20. Ryan Tannehill 21. Tyrod Taylor 22. Sam Bradford The Down Slope: 23. Carson Palmer 24. Jay Cutler The Unproven: 25. Carson Wentz 26. Blake Bortles 27. Trevor Seimian 28. Brock Osweiler 29. Jared Goff Need Replacing: 30. Ryan Fitzpatrick 31. Colin Kaepernick 32. Robert Griffin III Flame away TBD..... do your worst.....
Virgil Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I like it. I'd bump up Matt Ryan. I think Carr deserves to be with Franchise Qb's

I would probably bump Ryan and Wilson to elite. They raise their teams and their teams play multiple playoff games. I'd probably use "favorite" instead of "favourite" too but pretty good list. 4merper4mer Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I'm wondering if Rivers may be getting close to down slope. Kaepernick isn't that bad IMO, but I don't see what category he fits. Luck is either next gen or unproven. Osweiler sure looked like a "needs replacing" to me but he is young. Nice list though, the categories mostly make sense and I agree with most. I am most looking forward to the Brady downslope but a its not hghere yet.

4merper4mer Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I actually could accept all of these moves pretty easily (Kaep's numbers were pretty good). I thought about moving Wilson up,a notch like you did. In 3 weeks I might also agree on Ryan.

I like the categories you created. I added one called crossroads. Comments: I probably should have created a special category for Ryan called on the Verge, waiting to see if he can pull out a Super Bowl this year. I don't think Wilson is at that level and I want to see more from him. I put Rivers, Manning, Flacco, Newton and Winston in the at the crossroads. Frankly, I think they could go either way, up or down, in the future. I also put Cousins in the Next Gen group, he has earned it. Great Post! Edited January 20, 2017 by horned dogs
NoSaint Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 id slide seimian and osweiler down, but anything else is splitting hairs really.
GunnerBill Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 I'd probably use "favorite" instead of "favourite" too but pretty good list. Ah.... don't worry. Spelling will reach America soon. All of the issues people have raised so far are considerations I had. I think Kaep is an interesting one... the number are better than the eye test certainly.... but I don't see where else he fits and the leadership thing is a big question mark too. Anyone believe he is starting somewhere next year? On Carr if he can match this year's play again next year he could potentially bump up 4 or 5 spots quite easily. Him being top of the next gen category is intended to imply he is the closest to crossing over into franchise company.

And very accurate IMO I certainly think Rivers and Manning are two likely to have the kind of Carson Palmer slide next year..... Flacco less so but I think Kirby's view that he might be more a top of the game manager bracket than a bottom of the franchise category guy is a fair argument.
jr1 Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Kaep has the second lowers interception percentage in NFL history. He should be in game manager category
D. L. Hot-Flamethrower Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) Kaep has the second lowers interception percentage in NFL history. He should be in game manager category It is fair to say that the prob with Kaep is he hasn't built on his first 2 years and has declined. His numbers are down across the board and he's 30 next year with questionable leadership skills. He does avoid intercepts, I'll give you that, everything else, including his Y/A dropped from 7.8 to 6.6 last 2 years combined. Edited January 20, 2017 by horned dogs

I though long and hard about the way I would categorise and rank them taking into account play in 2016, overall body of work and potential. Here is what I came up with..... Flame away TBD..... do your worst..... Rogers and Brady should switch spots without question. I don't know how anyone would question that. Ben Roethlisberger should be bumped down to franchise and ranked around number 7 probably. I consider Ryan and Rivers both as elite Qb's. So they should be bumped up and definitely ahead of Ben. Tannehill above Tyrod - um.... no The order you have number 25 through 32 in is also questionable but highly debatable in many different directions. Other than that, not too bad - I would say in ballpark.
Fadingpain Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Solid list; I agree with almost all your choices. Here we are with 4 teams left standing. Their QBs are ranked 1, 2, 4, and 5 on your list. Meanwhile, we debate if we should retain #21! Note to Bills: GET A GOOD QB. KIDNAP HIM IF NECESSARY. JUST GET ONE.
Kirby Jackson Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Where are Bridgewater and Foles?I think that he only used the 2016 starters. With that being said Bridgewater would be in the game manager tier and Foles on the needs to be replaced imo.

Ryan Fitzpatrick 31. Colin Kaepernick 32. Robert Griffin III Flame away TBD..... do your worst..... I think it's somewhat accurate. Despite this MVP-caliber season I agree that I don't think Matt Ryan is ready to be placed in the Elite category. Maybe a Super Bowl ring would change that. I don't agree with putting the Next Gen players into one group. Aside from Carr I think you're overrating all of them. I'd demote Eli and Flacco in the "game mangers" category and would consider moving Cousins in the "franchise" category. At worst, Cousins should be #1 game manager. Cutler should be demoted to "need replacing." Copying what you've done, here's the changes I'd make. Elite: 1. Aaron Rodgers 2. Tom Brady 3. Drew Brees 4. Ben Rothlisberger Definite Franchise Quarterbacks: 5. Matt Ryan 6. Russell Wilson 7. Andrew Luck 8. Philip Rivers 9. Matthew Stafford 10. Cam Newton 11. Derek Carr 12. Kirk Cousins The Game Managers OR Next Gen with more to prove (on the cusp): 13. Teddy Bridgewater 14. Marcus Mariota 15. Joe Flacco 16. Eli Manning 17. Jameis Winston 18. Dak Prescott 19. Alex Smith 20. Andy Dalton 21. Tyrod Taylor 22. Ryan Tannehill 23. Sam Bradford 24. Carson Palmer The Shaky: 25. Colin Kaepernick 26. Carson Wentz 27. Trevor Seimian 28. Blake Bortles 29. Jared Goff Upgrade Absolutely Required: 30. Jay Cutler/Brian Hoyer 31. Robert Griffin III 32. Brock Osweiler 33. Ryan Fitzpatrick Edited January 20, 2017 by Wayne Arnold
