What is sour? Sounds interesting.

Beers with a souring agent, usually lactic acid, added during fermentation.

 

Berliner Weisse is a low-alcohol soured wheat beer that's usually served with a syrup like raspberry or woodruff. Very refreshing.

I've lived in the south...I guess if you consider Charlotte the south (seems like there were almost as many yanks down there as southerners). But people in general seemed to be nicer and more down to earth. Beer snobbery, especially amongst the "craft beer" crowd is a very real thing, IMO. Maybe it's amplified a bit here in Vermont because there is a brewery around every corner.

oh, I've seen the beer snobbery, believe me. Happened to wander into a nice beer bar in Baltimore last summer when there was a home brew convention....fork in both eyes was preferable. I was just not certain how small is small batch. Some the guys down here that I would consider microbrews only pour at their taproom or sell in sixtels to a few local bars.

 

In terms of sours, this is a pretty funny writeup, albeit a few years old. I guess the threat of the bacteria getting loose in other tanks scares small brewers...but his local place Hardywood is dedicating a whole separate room to sours so i am excited about that!

I think a great style of sour to start with is a Flanders Red Ale or Flemish sour.

 

Rodenbach is affordable and good.

I know, two posts in a row, but what the hell!

 

Went to Total Wine today..they had the Nectar by the case load there, but i bought a new Sour by Brooklyn...Bel Air , and a new Saison by 21st Century called Sneak Attack!

 

No nectar for me1
