Nope. I think whoever the OC is gonna be has been approving the RB, OL coach hires under the table. He might escape a team in a coup.

If true, why could that not be Munchak? Checks the prior head coaching experience box many have been listing as a preference in a candidate.

but does he check the playcalling, own playbook and running an offense box? i thought he had a marrone-esque history of not being a true offensive guy

No one really does before coming a coordinator, but would it not be refreshing to have an offense focused through the line and superb blocking? He's a true offensive guy:

As player: As coach:
  • Houston Oilers (19941996)

    (Offensive assistant/quality control coach)

  • Tennessee Oilers/Titans (19972010)

    (Offensive line coach)

  • Tennessee Titans (20112013)

    (Head coach)

  • Pittsburgh Steelers (2014–present)

    (Offensive line coach)

Just reeeeeally line focused. I do get your point though re: play-calling.

Why the fascination with the OC?

QB is much more relevant and important.

We'll find out soon enough who both will be.

Well....now Whaley is saying we don't want to make a QB decision before we have our OC and QB coach.

To me it's getting curiouser and curiouser. We keep hiring offensive assistants, which normally one would expect the OC to have a lot of input into choosing

When Nate Hackett is a two-time OC in the league, the Bills change in midseason to a first-time OC and improve, and OCs bounce from team to team like a $20 whore - maybe we are overthinking their importance?

$20 whore's are important. Oldest profession on the planet. They keep desperate men with limited judgment, as evidenced by the fact they're banging $20 whores, from biding their time in other ways, at least for a little while.
