Because people want to sell us stuff, and we want to buy it, doesn't mean it is unfair trade. American consumers do get cheaper goods, more choices and can export more things with free trade. We are the richest country in the world, so ya, we will buy lots of stuff. Can the deals be better? Maybe, but I don't trust Trump to negotiate that deal at all. IMO, the trade deals are not the problems in this growing economy. Things are really going good, deficits aside

The growing  national debt is good ?

No, I would say not. But I don't see that tied to the trade deficit, is all. Trade is good

Trade is good, but how will you balance the budget and start to pay down the national debt.

Raising taxes on the rich will not be remotely enough.

Honestly, we won't ever balance the budget. We have had a deficit since Alexander Hamiltons time, with a few periods of surplus. Deficits and debt are not horrible unless they get too big. So we will never pay down the debt, we will keep growing the economy to shrink its impact. Like when you buy a house and it's expensive, but make more money each year, so it's not so bad after awhile....then you borrow more! Economic growth is the most important thing. It shrinks debt, in a relative way, if that makes since. I'm off to sleep, night Alf!

OK  how would you balance the budget and start to pay down the national debt , honest question , seriously.

I'd start by not confusing it with the trade deficit...

The national debt when Carter left office was less then $1T , jmo  it's not good now. If enough workers were making enough to pay taxes would the deficit be less now ?

Reminder,  Obama inherited a crashed economy and 2 major wars from who ?

Reminder: if you are going to repeat nonsense talking points.......................you could at least try providing a link.

Crashed economy--------------Recession ended December 2008

two major wars -------------  ?

Seems like Iraq had been pretty well won (per Joe Biden) what happened there

Afghanistan --- The "good" war.............per B.O.

Yes, it would, but then we could have to deal with inflation, higher interest rates and increased payments on the debt. Isn't economics fun! It's impossible to get it just right, but yes, growth, good jobs and robust trade are better than the opposites.

Learned last night the USA is now the number one beef exporter to Korea in the world.

As they get more prosperous they eat more meat. It's a reason we pay more for beef here, too. As more is shipped overseas.

We actually import quite a bit of beef, it's very lean, though.

South America?

Australia, new Zealand and Brazil iirc are some of the tops we imoort from.  And we have been importing less over the last few years. Prices are falling so it helps.

Do you think that a 25% tariff on steel imports will actually happen for any meaningful amount of time?

No.  There's a special election coming up in a week in Pennsylvania's 18th district in a week though.
