Tax relief comes in the immediate 8% pay "raise" from canceling the withholding of the payroll tax.   There will be a different package to help the suddenly unemployed.

Thank you. There still are state run unemployment benefits.

Pressley, Warren say next coronavirus spending package should include student debt cancellation

By Louis Casiano | Fox News

Some Democratic lawmakers are calling for student debt cancellation to be included in the next coronavirus relief package as Washington debates how to provide economic assistance to businesses and workers impacted by the pandemic.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, both of Massachusetts, called for congressional leaders to prioritize the issue, which impacts millions of Americans.

“Student loan cancellation has to be part of the next emergency funding package. @SenWarren & I are calling on Senate & House leadership to prioritize this,” Pressley, who served as a co-chair for Warren’s now-defunct presidential campaign, tweeted Tuesday.

What does somebody do if they are still considered employed but they have zero hours worked for the next few weeks?  In other words they have not been fired or terminated.

Hopefully, this will end any talk of Warren being a possible VP choice.

It’s called temporary lay-off. It’s been around for years.

One would think it would be treated as if that person was laid off.

Treasury Secretary warns US could see 20% unemployment rate due to coronavirus, source says

Mnuchin's comments came as he urged Republican senators to act on economic stimulus measures totaling $1 trillion designed to avert that kind of worst case scenario.

In the same meeting, Mnuchin also said he is concerned the economic ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic could be worse than the 2008 financial crisis, the source said.

Mnuchin's comments, which were first reported by Bloomberg News, come amid a rising sense of urgency at the White House and on Capitol Hill to confront the increasingly serious threat of the coronavirus pandemic — on both the public health and economic fronts.

8% pay raise for those still working in good paying jobs is wrong. Have unemployment benefits for low income workers who don't otherwise qualify . Do not give Trump bucks to families still having a income that is livable.

The budget deficit during a prosperous time is way too high. The deficit during this emergency will be off the charts serious.

The well to do were given a big tax cut by Trump , now is the time to help the working poor who are now unemployed by this pandemic. Walmart and Amazon have 100,000 temp jobs each open in this crisis  so that will help.

I do respect  the economic expertise  of GG  100% ,  my opinion is just that

Just heard Bernie say that we are the most successful and richest country the earth has ever seen. He then went on to say that we need to fundamentally change.

Anyone watching the long interview  on CNBC  with Bill Ackman  CEO Pershing Square Capital are in shock. I would not even repeat his dire prediction.

He was pretty apocalyptic.   In fairness, people like that should bare open their full investment positions if they are going on airwaves to propose solutions.

For the sake of discussion give us an idea.  It's not like a couple of people on an obscure message board are going to end civilization as we know it.
