Trump’s tariffs are really hurting that sector of the economy

But Trump didn't put any tariffs on North American hardwoods. China did and that's hurting their furniture manufacturers. Maybe we should make up for China's use of inferior hardwoods and start up some more furniture companies here in North America.

How long do you figure before he finds out what a tariff actually is?

There is a total disconnect in the media. This article was on Fox for jobs numbers yet the Fox TV blurb is it was a disappointment (and the market was taking it in stride - duh because it is good news).

October and September were also revised (again) upward.

US job growth roars back in November, with 266,000 added

U.S. hiring surged in November, as the economy added 266,000 jobs and unemployment returned to a half-century low, a sign the U.S. is powering through a global slowdown.

The payroll number easily topped the estimate of 180,000 from economists surveyed by Refinitiv, who also saw the unemployment rate holding steady from October's 3.6 percent.

It marks the 110th month of straight gains.

Unemployment ticked down slightly to 3.5 percent as more people were looking for work, matching a 50-year low. The labor force participation rate was little changed at 63.2 percent. Average hourly earnings, meanwhile, rose by 3.1 percent over the past year to $28.29.

US trade deal passes Japan Parliament: Trump’s victory for American farmers

Japan’s Parliament on Wednesday, Dec. 4, approved a US-Japan trade deal that is taking effect at the beginning of 2020 and bringing good news for American farmers.

The deal cutting tariffs between the countries was signed by President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Sept. 25. It cleared Japan’s upper house on Wednesday after clearing the more powerful lower house earlier.

The deal will pave the way for cheaper American beef and other agricultural products in Japan.

The president called the US-Japan trade deal the “first stage of a phenomenal new trade agreement” and described it as “outlining the significant steps we’re taking toward a fair and reciprocal trade agreement.”

Trump calls everything "phenomenal."  There's absolutely no reason to believe his characterization of the trade deal, any more than there is to believe CNN's characterization of it as a blight on the American middle class.

History question, since I'm still learning.  Which other party got a major boost when the economy tanked in the early '30s?

Which party now openly hopes for an economic downturn?

The low unemployment # will give some leverage for a more fair trade deal with China. I still worry about the budget deficit during a period of prosperity .

But...but the Trump economy is still terrible because Tiberius is stuck doing the overnight shift at the laundromat.

He's lucky to keep that $9/hr job.  At $15/hr he gets replaced by a card reader.
