I hate his tactics and it will hurt, but once we get back to the trade negotiating table, the US will have a much better deal than it had before it all started. This spat is never going to be a long-term thing. While it will inflict some short-term pain on us, it will be far more painful for China (and the EU before they cut a deal), forcing them to the table with a far more reasonable mindset. We can have a pretty self sustaining economy. The key was becoming energy self sufficient. We are basically there now. We can call the shots if we choose to do so. China thinks they're still dealing with an American politician.
